I've been thinking all along that Obama just blew it. The US is always being criticized for sticking it's nose into other people's business, yet when something like this happens all ears turn toward us to see what we will do. If Obama wants to improve relations he should have just shut his trap and taken Michelle back to another Broadway play. Let Northeast Asia or the UN, or whomever first ASK for our intervention before we step up to the podium and start flexing our muscle.... It's not automatically our problem to solve. It would be far more diplomatic to see what others think first...
I don't know if they CAN expel students anymore... Seriously...it seems there's all sorts of forms and paperwork you now have to file and then the parent gets all yanked off and sues... It's nuts.
It just seems that SOME of the control should be put back into the individual schools. These are the people who know the children and each child has a different set of needs. How can Washington possibly do better making those determinations than the principal who knows the specific situation????
Well I think a large part of the problem is that you cannot legislate with such a broad brush. Each situation is different, as you said earlier. If the schools were allowed a bit of flexibility I would like to think they would tactfully handle the situation to suit that particular situation...
As for liability, I don't even care. I just want my damn kid safe!
It's funny in a way. I'm actually very tolerant of others no matter what their situation, but when it comes to my kids I suddenly have the heart of a lion. I don't like the idea of sending them off to school every day in an environment where she quite literally could be hurt. Just as the ADD child is afforded protections, I think the other children should be, too. What bothers me is that the school has little say in the matter. Our politically correct government has tied their hands.
Really? You wouldn't expect it so much over there. I thought it was much more of a US problem but it's good to know others experience it, too. Maybe that will help spearhead efforts to solve the problem?? I'm half in love with your country by the way... Have been rather fixiated on it for the past year or so. Lovely, lovely place.
Absolutely, but let me give you an example... My daughter is in 4th grade. She is, and has always been, in "Top Group," which is one class set aside for the advanced students. There is another child in her class who has A.D.D. and frequently refuses to take his medicine. When the tantrum starts, all the kids have to move to the other side of the room until FOUR specially trained staff members can get there and carefully remove the child by each taking one arm, leg, etc. They are required to do it this way and it is necessary because the child bites, punches, kicks and throws things (including scissors).
Very true...but our schools are perpetuating the problem by rewarding bad behavior. They have to be sooooo politically correct these days that kids who act up are usually handled with kid gloves for fear of lawsuits or because of government regulations. The result is that the kid who is the trouble maker goes into adulthood totally unprepared because he was never taught that the behavior was uncceptable. What kind of favor are we doing for that kid????
RE: Obama Rocks! Today! the most serious attempt against more wars!
Oh...Duh...
