If you just say no I would hope then there are detox centers available,long term councilling,after care programs,etc.....There are many that are ready for treatment,but told there is a waiting list,go figure.....
Some of the shelters give a glass of wine out ever 4/6 hours,like I said,it may not be the right thing to do,but it maintanes where abouts,and for some, medical conditions warrent they be giving medication on a regular basis,and be it not for drink,they would freeze to death,not be found,until to late,etc.
Have bought many drinks for those on the street,worked at a wet house that about says it all....Be it right or wrong,its a fact of life that for many isn't going to change anytime soon if at all.

Not knowing how sick or what is is your sick with I can only assume....tell your family and friends the truth,as for your children,"mom" being sick is going to scare them regardless what the illness is,is it something that for now you can hold off from tellling them,if they don't have to worry,loss there school year and such,personally,I wouln'd say a word.
