Off to protect the traces of the data that is left on the hard drive.
When the files were first deleted very little was changed. Everything was still there but the name had been deleted from the references in th OS and the sectors that the files were on were no longer marked as not being able for writing to the drive.
Right away those sectors were available for use. Temporary files. expansion of the page file or what ever. Add in Vista trying to constantly defragment the hard drive and you have very high odds that something will be written to one of those sectors.
Had she sut it down right away it would have been very simple to recover all the photos.
If she does not turn it off the files will be over written at least in part. She should have shut down the computer as soon as she realized she had deleted the pictures. Even a few hours running time greatly lowers the chance of getting data back.
Trust me on that I have done quite a bit of data recovery. It is one of the things I do to make a living.
If she has not taken a lot of photos since deleting the pictures from her camera that is still the best bet for recovering the images.
The proceedure is to make an image of the drive or flash media on a second computer then recover the data from that. There are quite a few temporary files made in the process and you can count on at least double the amount of data being written to the drive as you are recovering the data. Between the OS, installed software and document you might be easialy looking at close to 150 GB on her hard drive.
You need a second computer to do the deed and the software does cost money.
Shut off your computer and do not run it again until after the data has been recovered. Every second the computer is running it writes to the drive. The space the files were on WILL be overwritten eventually. Given that Vista defrags all of thetime it might be a better bet to do the data recovery on the camera media providing you have not taken more pictures.
I'd forget about trying to do the job yourself. It is easy to make mistakes the first trip out and you may lose everything.
I saw one that had stolen "her" picture from and advert for another singles site. The real laugh was that the ad had come up randomly on the same page as her profile.
(Hidden a short distance away I whisper a few words to the loyal dog then slip him a treat. Dog runs around behind somechick and makes his appearance limping and looking pitiful. You can read his thoughts in his big brown eyes; "Nice lady, would you help me find my Daddy?")
I know this is going to be difficult for you to understand but perhaps one of the other people here can explain it to you.
You create your own reality and no one elses.
It is not your right to decide how others think, feel or reason.
While I do understand that this puts your reality on shakey ground that is your problem and no one elses. Be aware that many people in the real world will call you on it when you incorrectly make accusations against them. It is not an attack against you it is just one of the many things that an adult in our society has to face.
I asked her a question, you felt you had the right to answer it.
It's simple math Stess. You got called on your actions and now you are getting defensive.
Poor form on your part.
I find it interesting that you accuse others of being narrow minded given the rigidity of your own belief system and your not always subtle attempts to control the flow of a thread.
You are obviously not a stupid man but it would be nice if you would show some of the tolerence you claim to have.
I'm not playing any games but I am getting rather weary of your poorly played ones.
Perhaps you should drop them and stick to baseball?
