I can understand your perspective from a teacher's point of view. But the average teacher in the USA makes a bit over $50,000 / year plus tons of benefits and lifetime pension. They actually work an average of only 182 days per year ...and many of those days are short or late start days etc etc. I am friends with a bunch of teachers ...and I know that they're at the gym at 3pm every day and home by 4:30 ......all of them ! They don't work that hard ...and when they want to screw-off for the day - they each have two teacher's assistants assigned to them to take over. ( disgressionary time off - asside from sick or vacation pay ) It's a pretty damn nice life for them ... They lobby every year for new classrooms and new buildings ....but they refuse to spread classes through the year to utilize the empty school rooms 3-6 months out of the year. And the school District Administration has job titles for everything with assistants to the assistants - who all go to training seminars in SFO and stay in penthouse suites .... Is it any wonder why some of us who don't have kids wanna quit paying into this scam on the tax payers ?
While I partially agree with you that we all benefit from our country having well educated graduates .....I believe the school systems need revamping and elimination of the tremendous waste by union backed teachers and huge over paid administraions etc etc. Parents who have children should pay the majority of cost of their kid's educations and these schools. I do feel it is socially responsible for everyone else to contribute a smaller affordable portion. Here in Ca- we have PE teachers making over $100k / year with full paid retirements and unbelievable benefits ....that needs to be corrected. Our teachers and kids have short days and so many breaks all year that they don't learn a damn thing - and the teachers are geting paid a full year's salary for working less than six months of the year !
Teachers should be paid and kept - judged by their performance....just like any business. They should have their teacher's aids clipped along with their rediculous benefits ( like disgressionary time off , etc ) And if they only work 8-9 months per year - they should only be paid for that period ...........
Somehow I think the main reason some Americans support this Libyan military action is because they think it'll help keep their god given gasoline prices lower......
RE: Save our teachers.
BTW.......Most of the teachers around here are making nearly double that national average yearly salary.....
