A Lone Soldier

A lone soldier walked silently through the battlefield

Bodies of comrades strewn about the hills with no life left

To his left, smoke of smoldering fires not yet extinguished

On the right, death and those who would soon join them

Gun hung heavily to his side, shoulders slouched

Destruction surrounding as far as the eye could see

Not a single soul had survived, friend or foe on the field

Though he searched for miles on the fields of death

Onward he walked through disparity and remains

Dragging the white flag of surrender behind him

What was the purpose of this bloody massacre?

When nobody is left to share in a celebration of victory

Pulse

A simple beat
One more chimes in
The cadence has begun
Rhythms hold
Time marches on
The beats have merged to one

Fishing Stories

I remember sitting telling stories
Of the ones that got away
The size of fish increasing
With each a passing day

We would start with those
They were five feet long
Too bad the line broke
The fish was too strong

Then there were more
With colors so deep
If you could just reel it in
It would make you weep

One day it came true
The fish it was caught
Four foot and strong
I kid you not!

About this poem:
Thought I would have a little fun. This is my daughter though and she did catch a HUGE fish while we were vacationing. Reminded me of many other times fishing and stories that were shared - some true and some a bit of a stretch!

One in a Crowd

A crowd of hundreds milling about
Syncopated steps of a thousand feet
Trampled grass giving way underfoot
Litter strewn randomly without thought
Wooden booths with games of all kinds
Corn dogs, cotton candy, soft drinks
Chatter mixed with music of whimsy
Rides twist and turn, stop for new riders
Laughter and squeals of delight
Families enjoying a night of enjoyment
And on one dark bench in the corner
A small, crying child sits – unnoticed
A face, lost in the crowd of hundreds

Tangled

Tangled up in sheets of desire
Wrapped in satin strands
The silkiness slides across
Smooth skin un-attired
Stirring ever so slowly
From uncensored dreams
Of two becoming one
Emotions unleashed within
Brushing locks of hair
From sleeping eyes
I roll over again
To return to ecstasy

This is a spot I love to go with family. Each time I do I am reminded of the beauty and tranquility that can be found in nature. This lake is found in Bishop, California and a place so dear to me.

Battle for Life

Fight with all your might
It is a battle tried and true
Don’t ever lose your sight
Victory, we must subdue

You feel your strength is waning
Remember you have our support
Each muscle and nerve is straining
You feel your body contort

They stick you with needles daily
Fill your veins with poison and drugs
You lay in bed so frailly
And all I can offer is hugs

Remission is what we long for
And daily we all wait to see
The spoils of battle are the words
To hear you are cancer free.

Sun Spots

My father used to warn me
Don’t stare at the sun
You’ll hurt your eyes
And that won’t be any fun
But the way it looked intrigued me
I couldn’t look away
The little dots it caused
Seemed to dance my cares away
So full of pretty colors
Floating across my view
Each time I took the time to look
I would see something new
Well, now I understand my dad
And all the wisdom he shared
I know now that he was right
And that he really cared
I used to love my sun spots
I couldn’t get enough
Now I learned my lesson
And it is really tough
For now those spots are all I see
Each and every day
Staring at the sun
Has taken my vision away

Don't Judge Me

I may not speak with the finesse of a writer
My words may not touch your heart
But, don’t judge me

I may be in a wheelchair unable to move my legs
Not able to run as fast as you
But, don’t judge me

I may wear dirty and torn clothing as I sit on the curb
Begging for help or shelter
But, don’t judge me

I may have sold my body, to a man, to survive
To have a bit of food to eat
But, don’t judge me

I may have eyes, red-rimmed from all my tears
Shed for no reason that you are aware
But, don’t judge me

The things that you have seen do not make the person within
You do not know my story if you do not take the time
So, please, do not judge me

About this poem:
Venting a bit about those who jump to conclusions based solely upon what they see physically in a person. Sometimes a simple are you okay or is there something I can help you with is all a person needs and the inquisitive judging glares from those who know nothing...well let's just say they anger me.

Excuse Me

Excuse me sir, but you’ve sat in my chair
Can’t you see that I’ve left my things there?
You haven’t bothered to move it an inch
Perhaps if I lean over and give you a pinch
Why don’t you turn and acknowledge my words
I find it quite rude and a slight bit absurd
I asked you quite kindly with respect in my voice
So now you have left me with no other choice
I will raise my voice assured you will hear
My high pitched anger in voice so near
Alas you don’t move when I speak so clear
What’s wrong with you? Can’t you hear?
With all my strength your shoulders I shake
How much more of this can you take
Oh sir, just please acknowledge I’m here
I’m crying now, don’t you see my tears
I don’t want to believe what I heard today
The whispers and cries and sad things they say
If you’ll just take a moment and turn your head
Perhaps it will stop rumors – They say I am dead

**~... I Wonder ...~**

I wonder where it all went wrong
When did this love fade away
It seemed a perfect match to be
But yet it did not stay

Friends and lovers true in heart
The good and bad times shared
I thought our love would hold us tight
Emotions were never spared

But now we stand a world apart
With tears welled in our eyes
Not knowing now what to say
For fear it would be lies

Time to say good bye my love
Turn and walk away
I’ll save the memory of my dreams
To relive another day

That tender spot deep inside
I’ll carry for years to come
And know that once I had true love
A joy only known to some
