Governments

Governments seem here to stay
With the public's money they waste away
On useless things that do the people no good
Get rid of governments I think we should.

We work and toil on our lands
While they take our money from our hands
A land of opportunity for some
A worker's work is never fun.

We try to build our homes to live
While governments drain us like a sieve
Debt they seem to pile up instead
With financial problems over our heads.

Our governments should look after us
Instead they treat us with disgust
Why do we have to put up with them
Those governments created by men.

Ode To A Policeman

The policeman is the strongest man in the world
As he can hold up all the traffic with just one hand
But there is a serious side to the policeman,
A protector of the innocent, a man who will risk his life
For anyone, no matter what walk of life,
Fearless of the ever present danger surrounding him,
He is often shunned by the public,
Underestimated by criminals and accused of corruption,
But is never given the credit he rightly deserves.
People should take a better view about this unsung hero
Of our times, the policeman.

How Times Have Changed

How times have changed, as I remember
As a boy I would be fascinated for hours
Playing records on the old wind up gramophone
And twiddling the knobs of my Grandfather's
Radio receiver, with it's large valves glowing
And giving out hums and squeals as I turned
The dial backwards and forwards.

As a teenager, I grew up watching television
And listening to my stereogram, playing all the
Latest songs of the time.
In my adult years, I would watch images from
The new colour television and quadraphonics
Stereo, which was the latest thing around.

I am now middle age, with all this behind me
As technology has changed, with computers,
Video machines and compact disk players;
How I preferred the earlier times, where life
Was a lot more simpler place to be.

The Gargoyle

The Gargoyle, a spooky character that sits around castle walls
said to be in league with the Devil, a nondescript creature with
wings, tail and horns, which can be traced back in time to the
medieval period, were people were often afraid of their own shadow
these Daemon-like apparitions were often worshipped by
Devil worshippers who often made human sacrifices to appease
these Demons; over the years these cults have been slowly
eradicated by people who stood for law and order in the land
who wanted to stop this barbaric practice.
The Gargoyle eventually disappeared into folk-lore history.

About this poem:
This poem is really a descriptive writing, but it is a dramatic Gothic peice worthy of this poetry spot, it is self explanetary of this folk-lore character still seen on castle walls and old buildings. The gargoyle was my final poetry peice of the early 2000s.

Life

It was God who created the beginning of life
Since man arrived there has been nothing but strife
When the air was fresh and the rivers where clear
The birds and the animals had nothing to fear
Now even in those early times
Man was the one who was committing the crimes
They started wars, they fought and died
Though living in harmony they never tried
Man even tried to replace the horse
With the internal combustion engine of course
Which eventually led to the motor car
A shiny vehicle that would take man far
They split the atom, a shock wave was felt
If man played with uranium the planet might melt
Oh will mankind go to far
Or make a new life near and far.

About this poem:
This Poem was the first of many poems I actually wrote for a poetry competition, it did not win 1st prize, but I recieved one for best new poetry. that was around the early 2000s. The poetry describes what man has done towards the destruction of our planet and could lead to it's eventual end.
