MacDonalds they spread
Everywhere, a Merkun
disease - guns planes ships

Of a place alike
and a time alike.
He knew not me
Yet I admired respected
Never envied him.
How I regret his going
Passing gone,
clever words no more!
At times a wife resented
him mightily since
he drank and womanised
smoked and stank.
His children at times
adored abhorred him -
like I, mostly admired him.
And now like I, mourn him.

About this poem:
A man of words departed and mightily missed. With rain and autumn descending I hear his voice.

Oh heavy rain falls
yet again - shall I go out
now and check the drain?
Thunder rolling warns
of damaging weather soon
as darkness descends

not you, you're immune.

It's frog and cricket
night; last kookaburra call
rings out - frogs don't stop

I wonder
and if I should
happen to think 'not',
What says that of me
I wonder?
Psssht not much!
You are just you.

No more than eighteen
What could I cook do I remember?
Living in St Kilda I do remember
A young couple tried to show me an omelette
But in fact I knew that already,
And concealed my response
Yet perhaps I bought some kitchen tools.
Arriving in NZ south island
Unsalted porridge was quite a shock
Not now! Never salt such foods.
Times change!
In my backpack then
were mostly books and music

Shine in my thoughts my dreams
Above all I hear your voice, it seems
Like a baritone clarinet so clear
If only as in dreams I could hear
it in mornings when the sun is still not high
whisper I would in your ear and curly hair
words I wish I could speak but do not dare.
As we so often say 'you know' 'you know'
By your side I so wish I could go
Everywhere!

I wonder?
twenty years more or less together
love fled long ago
I last touched you oh so long ago
Last century or millenium it seems.
The first time we spoke I remember with clarity
the shock of your voice so harsh
sometimes it softened but so often so harsh so harsh!
