Tulsa King

This is a series on Paramount starring Sylvester Stallone. The premise is that Stallones character was released from prison after 20 years and sent to Oklahoma to start a mafia crime branch in Tulsa.

If you can would enjoy the tv show Happy days being merged with the Supranos you will be entertained. Stallone is a 75 year old “Fonzie”. He takes over a marijuana shop just by walking in hitting the security guard over the head with a coffee thermos grabs the nerdy owner by the collar and walking out with $50,000 in cash.

Another ridiculous episode, Stallone and his gang of locals walk into a biker club and beat everyone with baseball bat with no serious injuries.

There are also some disgusting murder scenes like the Sopranos had so it is kind of a weird merger of romanticized the good macho guys win mixed with blood and guts.

There are 9 episodes and the second season is being filmed now. I give this 4 out of 5 stars.

Bumblebee - a review!

I finally got to see the new Transformers spinoff movie, centered on the yellow Beetle, and later a yellow and black Camaro known as Bumblebee, or B-127 back on Cybertron.

The movie follows Charlie (Hailee Steinfeld), a 17 year old girl, who is on the verge of turning 18. She has some issues, namely a family, that doesn't really care about her, and three bullies at school. She finds Bumblebee on a marina, and takes him in. At first, she doesn't know that it's Bumblebee. All she sees is a tired, banged up old Beetle. After inspecting his undercarriage, she discovers a face, making Bee transform.

The opening of the movie is great. It shows some war on Cybertron, and it instantly kicks into action with explosions and gunfire. Once Bee comes to Earth, he goes into hiding, which is how he gets to the marina. Bee is not alone in going to Earth, as two Decepticons also come to Earth, to hunt Bee down.

Apart from the impending two Decepticons, Shatter and Dropkick, Bee and Charlie also has the leader of Sector 7, colonel Jack Burns (John Cena) on their heels, and thus begins an epic adventure, full of fantastic action sequences, lots of emotion and a fair bit of humor.

Other actors include John Ortiz, Angela Davis and Jorge Lendeborg Jr.

Overall, I liked this movie a lot. It is said that this is the best of the Transformers movies, and I agree. Something about this movie is just right. It lacks the cringe elements that Michael Bay stuffed into his movies, and it's nice to see a Transformers movie, without overly sexualising the lead actress.

So for all that it's worth, after nearly two hours of epic sci-fi action, I am gonna give this movie a 9/10.

Tuck Everlasting...

It took me months to clear my house and get it ready for sale. Admittedly, I dragged my feet and underestimated the time needed to sift through what I would keep, sell or discard.
Near then end, I had a box of VCR tapes and needed to decide their fate. Most of them were recordings my father took from cable TV shows like HBO. His favorites were Westerns. Offered for the taking on several yard sales, they got pulled back each night. Traumatized over the event, I was forced to say goodbye and put them into the recycle bin. Checking everything in the box, I pulled 2 tapes to keep. One was a home video of me and friends flying model helicopters and the other the movie Tuck Everlasting.

Today, I made time to view the tapes and pulled out the VCR machine, connected it to the TV and scanned both videos. Amazed both tapes actually played. I have a device called Dazzle that will allow me digitize the videos to store them on computer or DVD. Future project.

I did some research on the original movie, based on the novel by Natalie Babbitt. The original is not well known, but the 2002 Disney remake is. YouTube has it on their rental section. I often favor original movies, maybe one day I'll view it.

Briefly, Tuck Everlasting is a fictional story about The Tuck family around the 1900's who happened on a hidden spring and after drinking the water found it had magical properties. They became immortal. They didn't age but the folks around them did. Not to be noticed, they were forced to travel frequently as their secret not to be discovered. Young Jesse Tuck meets Winifred Foster and they fall in love. He reveals the family secret and wants her to drink from the spring. Through a series of errors, the family is tracked and forced to escape to a place where their identity is unknown. The boy urges Winnie to go to the hidden spring to drink the water, after he will return for her.
Sadly, many years have passed before his return only to find her grave marker.
Winnie married, had children and lived a long fulfilling life.
She never drank from the spring.

This song makes me think of Ivar The Boneless. Dunno why. I don't care for that character at all.

I dig this song though:

About last night - the return of...

Last night Colbert returned from a hiatus with some revealing insights into how Trump was faced with the decision to kill the Iranian general.
Colbert suggests that our US generals gave Trump a menu of choices in which killing the Iranian general was the worst choice.
The generals never thought he would make that choice. They don't know Trump very well, do they.

Here's his monologue from last night, including mentions of the Golden Globe awards featuring
a view of Salma Hayek's award winning globes. wow laugh

Just listening to Public Radio...

...while channel surfing, with my new Shenzehn short wave radio. This program was on creepy, sniffy Uncle Joe Biden's choices for running mate, and his pandering, sexist claim to pick a woman. Of course, the one hour piece focused almost entirely on Black women. Sort of like almost any story on Public Radio dealing with couples, excludes heterosexuals. Or when discussing so called "Dreamers", foreign born youth, enjoying/usurping the many benefits of real US citizens, and still of questionable legality. In these cases, almost every kid interviewed is at Harvard Med School, on an affirmative action free ride. I note the far greater number of violent gang MS-13 members, who are never heard from. Many are dreamers as well. Easy to interview in prisons. Do we digress?
So I recall one of many witch hunts on President Trump, literally dozens, all failed, after constant initial media coverage. Any one heard of Stormy Daniels ever again? Russian collusion? Etc.?
Or ruses by clinician shrinks, who should know better, but were suffering from TD-HD Syndromes. So without seeing clinical records, or using laboratory info, or a diagnostic interview, much less other testing, began tossing diagnoses about, all meant to claim he is incompetent to serve in his role. Boards of Medicine reminding them of ethics in practice?
Now, the alleged issue with Trump was Narcissistic personality traits, which are common in most pols. And in Meself. And the possibility of incompetence based on cognition. During serial medical exams, standardized testing for this was done. By qualified Physicians. He scored high normal on all.
Now, Syndromic alt lefties here will never agree, but most fair folks have seen the daily gaffs, verbal and behavioral, indicating poor judgment/memory/etc. by this the former VP. Many long montages exist displaying these. Belly ticklers all.
Yet nowhere on the biased media do we see any discussion of VP Biden's clear challenges in these vital regards. Many of us are aware of this "oversight", but it's really striking. Along with sequestering him a good deal, as damage control. Can't make any of this up.

Impromptu movie night yesterday!

I was scrolling through Amazon Prime yesterday, as you do. The movie Bloodshot caught my eye, and I thought "Hang on, isn't that the one with Vin Diesel? I have always wanted to see that".. So I did. I quite liked it. Action packed, full of pretty spectacular stunts but the CGI wasn't really the best. Most noticeable was when Vin was having a superheroesque brawl with one of the villains. Very enjoyable two hours. Once that was over, a quick break with some food, and then I jumped straight to Netflix, and into a suspenseful thriller, that was suuper dark. Night Hunter, was the name of that movie. It stars Henry Cavill as a weathered detective in Canada, who is investigating a death, and gets caught up in a very dangerous case, involving a recently arrested man linked to years of female abductions and murders. Besides Cavill, Alexandra Dadario, Ben Kingsley, Stanley Tucci and Brendan Fletcher completes the main cast. Brendan Fletcher REALLY shines in this movie, which is a great watch. It's filled with great acting and a twist you never see coming. When it happened, I went "Of COURSE! How could I not have seen it?".. The final movie of the night was the 1983 CLASSIC (yes, it's a classic!) Blue Thunder. Why did I decide to watch that? Well, after the darkness that was Night Hunter, I wanted to watch something light and fun, because ending your night with a dark thriller really doesn't do anything to help you sleep. Trust me, I know!

Anyway, Blue Thunder is one of those movies where you go "Wow, it was a simpler time back then". The movie itself is hugely entertaining, full of, for the time, great action and the lead role is well played by Rob Scheider and the rest of the cast is Warren Oats, Candy Clark and Daniel Stern (yes, Marv from Home Alone). When I saw Daniel on screen, I went "Hang on, he seems familiar.. Who is he..?".. I had to go to IMDb to find out, and when I did, it was yet again one of those "Of COURSE!" moments.

I might have to watch more movies from the eighties, because they are a LOT of fun!
