Hi all I thought this would be a good topic to discuss for the weekend.
It wasnt till I saw a Garth Brooks Video "The Dance" to get me to thinking about the true meanning of the day. You start to reflect on your life and the people that have came and gone in ones life and the impact that they made.
On this Holiday weekend I remember my Father, My best friend, and other friends and the selfless veterens that sacrificed all that are no longer here. As I am tipping my beer Here's to you thank you for being a part of my life and making a differance. You are never forgoten and will always have a special place in my heart, as a tear rolls down my cheek.
A great post,i also remember my father, and so many who have fallen and the ones who are standing proud today,we could never be able to tell them how much we appreciate all that they have done for us,but we try.I was at a mcdonalds last year and an older man was sitting alone,i noticed he had a retired vet hat on,when i was to leave i stopped by his table and told him i thanked him for his service and he looked at me and said thank you,,he seemed proud that someone thought of him that day,and i myself was proud for doing it,we should all be so selfless!!!

I apparently feel the same way you do and expressed my thoughts in a thread I did this morning called "A must see movie for THIS weekend". It is about the transport of a fallen marine coming home from Iraq. This is link is about the movie.
I saw that movie this morning..does touch the heart. That is why there is memorial day and veterens day. There is no way I will let the kids comming home now feel like the ones comming home from Vietnam. See a vet? Just go up and say thanks.. But it is to remember all that has touched you life in one way or another
I bow my head to all the dead, To those who were young and will never grow old. To the ones that had no choice but to fight for their life. The ones that returned with the dreams of the friends who didn't. I will honor all the weak and the brave who still fight from the grave. To Keep LIBERTY and FREEDOM payed for by the youth and elders of OUR NATION....You gave all for your country. The memory of your service will be HONORED...Today and everyday by the people that understand, you gave your life for others to live. The day will come when we will all live in peace but that day will come only when we join you. GOD BLESS the PEACE MAKERS that have giving through SACRIFICE...

I am a child of the 60's and do remember the vets every chance I get. We will never let our solders feel like they did when they come home from Vietnam.
When I visited the moving wall last year I shed so many tears. For all those who gave their lives, still giving, still sacrificing so we are able to live the life we are living.
The traveling wall is a very powerful message. I saw it a few time and I have yet to visit the real wall in D.C. When my brother went in '68 a few of his friends that I knew went as well but onle 2 came back. My Brother and Mike. I dont care how tough a man wants to make everyone beleave thinking about this will bring anyone to tears. I'm one that tears up everythime I hear the National Anthem.
Thank God we live it the greatest country in the world
That I am allowed to speak my own Language here, instead of perhaps Russian or German with Fascist terms! Too many Europeans seem to have forgotten that!
I think of my father who served during the Korean war and his brothers, who served in combat in the Pacific during WWII. I wish I had talked to them more about their experiences.

Well said, D. As a veteran myself, I honor this day to remember all of those who have given their lives in service for our country. Freedom is never free.
Tbilisigal: Ali your county will sooom have soo many dead people defending the interests of an alien country and no memmorial day would ever be there for them
your remarks are sometimes in really poor taste
we can feel compassion for all compassion for one doesnt mean there is no other wrong
mindfful: your remarks are sometimes in really poor tastewe can feel compassion for all compassion for one doesnt mean there is no other wrong
geeeeeeez
Fried I dont care you peception about me .call me whatever name you like . but you must understand one thing more people in other countires unwillingly given their life and family to protect your life and family at your home . while glorifying the sacrifies of your soldiers at least mention those sacrifies too .
And Americans have done good too. But the issue for most countries about "memorial day" is that it is nothing to do with us. We have our own days - probably less militaristic in some countries or more militaristic in others - but Memorial Day is an American thing and applies only to them.
