justjim63: Sadly it's only when a celebrity takes their own life do people give it much thought, every day thousands die the same way and are never acknowledged.
Yes true but it does bring attention to a serious problem in many countries...not a bad thing, IMO
justjim63: Definitely a good thing, it's a hidden epidemic that needs to be confronted.
yes it does need to b confronted and dealt w...obviously meds r not doing the job to calm people down....also to get back to an earlier comment...one thing to report it...another to keep harping on it and make the family miserable....and the people who r sending hate mail it is soooo disgusting,,,,,

Hiah... nice to see you...
Yes, you are right, it's only when a celebrity takes their own life and the media hops on for the story, but
I think, in amongst this, because it was a celebrity, it really makes a whole heap of people stand up and take notice.. and that is not a bad thing..
It sort of paves the way, for the recognition of the disease..
and hopefully all this chat about it, will encourage others to speak up, ask for support, ask for their network of friends for support, and or confide to another, when likely, if this continues to be hidden as a disease, it will not be positive..

He touched a lot of lives with his amazing humor, humanitarian deeds, and had the ability to make us laugh. It is natural that he is so widely mourned and grieved for.

Indeed,it takes a lifetime to become a Robin Williams
unlaoised: If nobody read it, the media wouldn't report it. So, who's to blame, if there is blame to be laid?

Hmmm, I doubt one could become a Robin Williams in 10 lifetimes. You're either born with his talent or you're not. There will never be another like him. Not in my lifetime at least.
It's really a shame that mental illness and depression are so stigmatized that people, especially people in the public eye, are hesitant to come out of the closet so to speak, and expose their frailties.

Twitter and Fb are individuals, so the media can't be blamed for that. Disgusting? Absolutely but that's people, not the press in this case.
The media is driven by readership demand, that's what draws advertising revenues...so if we all stop reading?

I'm well aware of what happened with his daughter. I repeat, Twitter is not mainstream media, it is social media and the comments were from individuals
