Money at work - love this story
A self-made millionaire giving back - Harris Rosen, in Florida, USA, "adopted" a local community, Tangelo Park, offering free pre-school care to all children and scholarships to all graduates. Crime in the area fell by 50% and high school graduation has gone up steadily from 25% to 100%.I don't think charity is good for people, because when it is easier to accept it than to go out and find work, the result is nearly always a parasitic mindset. This one, though - parents are freed up to go back to being productive, and youngsters are offered a reason to work hard and try for a future.
Probably the very last thing he'd want is to go into politics but THIS is where countries should look for leaders, or leaders should look for advice - those who help people to help themselves. JMO.

Thank you...for bumping this blog...
Just think, how many life’s could be changed...if more people gave to their community as this man did....
Yes, he definitely did turn this life around...and, good for him.
I prefer, when it is not politics...but, helping with those in your community in need...and, not making a political statement.
I had always hoped former President Obama...had made a foundation for those in his starting grounds in Chicago...college educations and to act as a mentor in the inner cities too....same with Oprah Winfrey....help those in poverty in the city that made her famous...
CC, I'm very impressed by any "charity" that helps people improve their prospects - a helping hand, not a patronising one
GWTW - thanks for the link! 10 million dollars, wow. And yet to 10% of the global population that's loose change. What a difference their loose change could make!
Luke, wow, that is a charismatic man, thanks for the link even though the black / white / coloured references are a bit confusing we are constantly told there is no such race as coloured and it is not a PC word. If the Rainbow Nation says it is a race, it is a race! As for criminal record - heard the one about the guy applying to emigrate to Oz, he was asked if he had a criminal record and said he hadn't realised it was still a prerequisite
LJ (again) apparently 80% of the world's money is controlled by 1%, and 90% in total by 10%. I'm all for success stories and don't feel that being a success means becoming a victim. I do think it would be fairer if the mega rich gave a bit of what no one of them could ever spend in one lifetime ... JK Rowling was living on benefits when she started the Harry Potter series, and later donated a million pounds back. Respect.
Crown - yes, afraid so. I just thought it was an interesting story.
