'To support nato', yea.. me also feel and think about nato more as a european pact.
I think it should be. In fact we could have a eu army replacing it.
I think the deal has always been: usa bear the bulk and in return control it for whatever purpose they see fit (like bombing gadaffi)

Trump wanted a change to this deal.
yea spend some money on your defense and call it NATO 2. after all, formed back in 1949 NATO has outlived its purpose to counter Soviet Aggression in Europe since the Soviet Union dissolved in 1991.
Right. 2% is not too much to ask.
If you check you will find most NATO members have paid in full and it is a voluntary contribution not a monthly bill.

Poland has contributed more than any other country due to the real threat of Russian incursion, thus proving that NATO is needed as much today as in 1949.
Would seperating the USA from Nato be a good idea? Meaning Bruxxles would have to call DC on a hotline if the Russian angry bear comes rolling.
I think I disagree on every single thing you say Riz.
Funny how that works ay'

No worries though, I'm used to it by now. It's cool. beer
Can the people who agree with Trump's claims that NATO members aren't paying their 'bills' please be more specific? Which countries owe how much, to whom and for what? Before you put pen to paper ,as
yet ,Ukraine is NOT a member of NATO.

Answers on a postage stamp please.sigh

Militarily and economically, the U.S. is a hugely formidable power. It has the largest nuclear arsenal on earth and continues to be the largest economy in the world. Yet, without its allies in Asia, and above all without those in Europe, the U.S would be a much diminished superpower. For instance, most Western countries purchase their arms and military equipment from the U.S.and that could possibly be diminished if the U.S pulls out of NATO under Trump.

By the way Sweden became NATO's 32nd Ally on 7 March 2024.
grin
Do you smell aggression gals?
Why are thase lefties always so angry?
dunno
Oh, correction some are just anti-trump left and right.
they just do not like the idea where the usa can improve a lot of things here with cost cutter savings the minute we leave NATO.
I'm neither left ,right or aggressive Grand ,I'm a thinker and please do explain where my post expresses anger.dunno
So you want to withdraw from a treaty that was instigated by America ,for America and Europe.

Who originally proposed NATO?

In May of 1948, Republican Senator Arthur H. Vandenburg proposed a resolution suggesting that the President seek a security treaty with Western Europe that would adhere to the United Nations charter but exist outside of the Security Council where the Soviet Union held veto power.

That 's an extremely selfish attitude about cost cutting when one compares the size of America to the rest of Europe. We are all struggling at the moment in case you haven't noticed. No thanks to our dear friend Putin of course.
God Bless the USA!

teddybear
God bless all countries of the World or don't we all count.cheering
Europe needs to grow up and stop sucking the USA's tit. Stand on your own two feet and stop trying to spend my money, everyone's got it tough, not just Europe. Be adults and settle your own issues on your own. Show us you can do it. Make us proud of you! wine

You really should do some homework before you post galrads.

Just to name a few:-

Have you forgotten 911 and the war your country started in Afghanistan Who did you call Blockbusters? No you called in us Brits.

Who started the war in Iraq? Who helped you out, Europe.

You don't keep us as your own economy is in crisis and you only just avoided a recession in 2023 so I'd go easy on all those takeaways if I were you.

comfort
if I were you? did you mean if you were me? Are you saying that the USA has been blackmailed into funding most of NATO all these years and England would never engage with other coalition forces and fight evil?
Are you saying the USA should never have pulled Englands butt out of the fire in WWI and WWI. the USA probably never should have loaned money to England to rebuild after the WWII or given England a 60 year term to pay it back. England defaulted on loans to the USA for WWI only to finish paying their WWI debt in 2015. God Bless America....

Get off your high horse gal. The allies won the war including America and not forgetting Russia who also suffered tremendous losses.Your debt was paid in full by 2006

The debt was to be paid off in 50 annual repayments commencing in 1950. Some of these loans were only paid off in the early 21st century. On 31 December 2006, Britain made a final payment of about $83m (£45.5m) to the US and about $23.6m to Canada.

You didn't pull England's butt out of the fire in World War 2 The whole of Europe was involved or have you conveniently forgotten about Italy and Mussolini who allied himself with Germany.

On December 7, 1941, Japan staged a surprise attack on Pearl Harbour, decimating the US Pacific Fleet. When Germany and Italy declared war on the United States days later, America found itself in a global war.

Carry on with your lauding of the U.S.A your adopted country, but for goodness sake give it a rest on attacking the U.K in almost every blog you post .

I had a look at this too and it sure doesn't look like the U.S bears the brunt when you consider the UK's size and payment in comparison to the U.Shandshake
the repayment you mention is not in conflict with what I said about Englands debt repayments except you failed to mention when England was intentionally delinquent or that some of Englands debt was forgiven.

the one most vital thing which England did contribute to the war effort in WWII was the intelligence, Special Operations Executive (SOE)

As far as the axis goes my first generation born here dad served in the U.S. 82nd airborne div and fought the fascists in Italy and later was reassigned to the U.S. first army and fought in Belgium before being injured. Italians did many things to help the U.S. war effort including keeping the Eastern shores protected.

"NATO is largely an American invention, " said Mark Shanahan, an associate professor in politics at the University of Surrey in the U.K., co-editor of The Trump Presidency: From Campaign Trail to World Stage and author of Eisenhower at the Dawn of the Space Age.

"It was formed to buttress Western Europe against the Soviet threat after World War II and its first leader was Dwight D. Eisenhower before he was elected to the White House," he told Newsweek.

the reason for NATO has long past and Russia has not been aggressive towards NATO.

Negotiations is the best solution for Peace, not NATO.

Not surprisingly, I agree with Marjorie Taylor Greene on the USA getting out of NATO.

Here’s an idea, build a 100ft tall wall around the entire United States and continue to think the US is the centre of the universe.

I’m sure most countries in the world would contribute to the wall.

Isolation can have some good benefits.

I genuinely believe there would be world peace if the US no longer existed.
You are shit stirring OP...lol...laugh
Your efforts to gain attention is comical...it seems you have a limited education background...not just in schooling but in life...I wonder if you ever traveled out of the USA or perhaps just in areas that cater to some who like all inclusive trips with the notion that they keep the locals out...laugh
Kate Smith is dead...leave her out of it...
