Keep The Kibble Crunchy Sayeth The Pets :-)

Dear All,

I do so apologize for not having replied to you on my previous blogs. Some family time and a much needed holiday were in order. Spent a lovely few days in beautiful horse country (Kentucky)visiting horse farms, some museums and the world famous Keeneland Yearling Sale. Not that I could afford any of those colts, mind you, but it was so nice just to be able to see others make them theirs.4500 colts and fillies were offered for sale, each of legendary bloodlines. :-) By luck, I happen to have a colt who traces back to some of these bloodlines and got him for virtually a song just last year. Watching him grow, In my mind's eye I see the wonderful horse that he will become. :-) Here's a new blog for you all and I hope that you enjoy it. tip hat

As much as I love Autumn, with that first cold snap arrives the chilly little field mice, seeking shelter and food from the frosty elements. How many of us pet owners have shuddered to find a rodent in the dried kibble?
And then there is Birdie, our stray kitty, who is as affectionate as she is ferocious. If we are merely an hour tardy to set her food out, she will take the project into her own claws. The foil-lined paper food bag will be shredded into ribbons while she captures her supper in a treacherous expanse upon the kitchen floor. Our cat was the lone survivor of a wild mother, found sharing ground squirrels with her in a hidden corner on a neighboring art director's screened porch. Despite an undomesticated streak, her compassionate nature is evidenced when she gifts us with a line-up of baby bunnies, all unscathed, at our back door.
What is it about the unconditional loyalty of a pet? I remember finding my sister flopped on her bed sobbing over one of the heartbreaking collie tales by Victorian author Albert Payson Terhune. The man was a master of summoning emotions with mere words. Born in 1872, Terhune left a legacy of true stories that warmed the soul after evoking a tear. Having lost his new bride in childbirth prior to their first anniversary, the beloved animal writer poured himself into stories that were resourced from his kennel, Sunnybank Park in New Jersey. The estate is open to the public today.
I chanced upon a website, Experience Project, dedicated to feeding starving dogs, cats, and other helpless animals. Simply answer a trivia question posted on their home page whereby food and shelter will be provided for homeless animals. Over a ton of food has been served to date and the fight to end cruel puppy mills is being won. :-)
On a final note, experts have agreed that the health benefits from loving interaction with pets is evidenced in longevity and emotional well-being. Whether slumbering at your feet, or purring in your lap, we sense trust and genuine affection. Chewed furniture and an occasional puddle may be a piddly price to pay in exchange for that hearty welcome at day's end! :-) tip hat
