did I do the right thing?

The other day I went to buy some chewing gum and chocolates, the seller was Moroccan and at that time was praying. Firstly, I asked him for some chocolates and he ignored me, he kept praying, total, after waiting about 30 seconds,I decided to go to the store was in front of his kiosk. I amazed by his attitude, I think he should stopped praying to earn some money.... do you think these are ways of behaving?..what would you have done if you were in my case?

waiting until he finish his prayer? or doing what I did.........super

I would have taking the choc and gum and do a runner!!! Would have stop prayin then i wonder?????motorcycle motorcycle motorcyclelaugh laugh drinking
There is a great choice of stores so I never allow the sellers to make me wait or be impolite wave
God does not require you to ignore people. Case in point. If a friend needs a helping hand and you are on your way to church God wants you to help your friend. God has amazing patience so the merchant should have waited on you then continued his prayers.

Silence is the language of the most high, so allow that person to speak with
their god in peace. Never interrupt a person in the state of praying. Be patient.
Ed1941..totally agree...thumbs up
Hi Stony! hug
If a person wants to pray they should do so on their own time, I would have done the same as you.
If a person wants to pray it is their right, but he should have closed up shop while doing it as not to be interrupted or rude to others.
Hi Marijo, Hi Becca

I agree with Becca, he shold close the kiosk or pray at home in his free time not at work.

Lazly Muslims pray at strict hours 5 times a day (as far as I know) so he can't do it in his free time. But I agree that he should close the shop with some sign saying: Closed for Pray in this and this hours, or so wave
Whats wrong with waiting for five minutes...this shows one, that you maybe an impatient women, women take longer than 5 minutes to get ready for anything, so I would have waited...wave
Mia = doh
I would have done the same as you M ..... super

If strictly religious Muslims put prayer before work can they be doctors, nurses, emergency workers etc who have to respond to emergency situations ahead of their personal needs ?

God bless you Laz... be careful because it wiil reflect to you.
Disredpect to what you understand or don t understand=doh
I dont see how it is disrespectful to go into a shop and expect to be served if the person working there is not already serving someone else, I would say it was disrespectful to the customer to ignore them and actually wouldnt use the shop again.
If he was serving another customer you'd have waited the thirty seconds and not thought twice.

Why make an issue about him praying?
Mia my God love me and so do i, he knows when i make business and need earn my bred i have to respect my clients if not i lose my bread on that day.

God don't hate person like me, i think he apreciate me more when i honest. peace
But he wasnt serving another customer he was ignoring the customer he had.
You did the right thing. You don't have to wait for him if u don't want to. It's his loss. He cares about himself & you should care about yourself & your needs. Always prioritize yourself ,just like he did to himself.wave teddybear
i wonder ? what if the shop keeper was you, and the customer was the muslim guy....what do you think he would have done if he came to your shop, and you were busy praying.? Do you think he would have waited ? or moved on to another shop ???

however, commerce and religion should be be connected anyway (in my humble opinion)
whoops ..typo..

SHOULD NOT BE..

sorry..

vino night !!
wave Oishere and ru4eva...if he doesn't want that anybody interrupt him why does he close the kiosk for a few minutes, this way I think he would avoid many problems.
why do I have to accept his position? what about mine?...dunno

Thank you everybody for your comments.....wave bouquet bouquet
@ NotNed ..... what if the shopkeeper had multiple beliefs and 3 or 4 Gods to pray to before serving you. Would you be so tolerant and patient then ? laugh
Maybe God helped him open his shop, wouldn't you want to take some time out and thank your boss for your job/wages and life style.

It amazers me how people think the world should revolve around them and there needs and wants..

@.GLATOL

I refer to me what would i do in this case and that God wont hate me if i make my prayer in 5 minutes later Lol!! with the dors closed and say i'll be back in 5 minutes.bouquet
Customer service. You own a shop. The shop is open. Your purpose is to serve customers. Its as simple as that. If the owner wants to pray, or take a coffee break, or do whatever takes his attention away from the people he is serving, he closes the shop. Its not disrespectful, or anti-religion, or anything else, to expect a kiosk owner to serve you when you are at his kiosk.

Marijo....yes, in my opinion you did the right thing. No service at one place (for whatever reason) you go somewhere they will serve you!!
Lazly and all, in my previous post I tried to tell you that Muslim prayers are strictly defined by number and time. He can't "delay" even with 5 min his prayer. They get up at night too to pray, take with them their rug and knee to pray wherever the time of the pray comes. Just have to be turned to the direction of Meka. Of course I am talking about devoted Muslims.

So if religion disturbs the business it's his loss. when you work with clients, especially shops etc the firm working time is very important. Cause one the clients get that they can't rely on some strict working time they won't go there. Cause the time is precious and people need to plan it so they wan't to use the services of reliable shops, offices etc.
Yes. You did the right thing. handshake

You should respect his needs and you did.
You should attend to your own needs and you did.

He should respect your needs and he did not.
> Okay, he had his own needs to attend to but like Sur and others have noted a "Be back in 5 minutes" sign or something to indicate (for any who do not know his customs) that he needs to pause to attend to his prayers (without interruption, it seems) and about how long they might need to wait would be considerate.

Now... If it his establishment ... I suppose he can offer service or not as he wishes ... and customers can go elsewhere if they wish. dunno

conversing Keeping the right proportions, I guess that Americans will have a similar reaction, when visiting some small town in Spain or Mexico at the time, meal and nap, and suddenly, they, they encounter all the businesses closed.
@ru4eve

In the retail industry the customers needs out weigh the needs of the staff, if a customer comes into the shop and you are not already serving another customer then they are your priority.
wave.RDM... 3 or 4 Gods to pray.. uh oh ...doh laugh wink
@. Mia,

Stop trying to provoke me with your belif in God, i belif too so end of discussion.wave

You say ....

"It amazers me how people think the world should revolve around them and there needs and wants".

Are you talking about the shopkeeper or the customer ?.....dunno
RDM laugh thumbs up For all your comments!
I guess I'm a really patient person. I would have waited... rather than take the time to run to another store.. go find the things i need all over again.. and possibly have to wait in line.

I agree with NotNed.

and if it is Muslim custom to pray 5 times a day at specific times, than I say, you respect their culture. Does anyone know how long they pray for???? I would understand closing down the shop if it was like 10 minutes or more. That might be a good idea.
Yes Glatlol, this is right in the majority of stores customers come frist. The point is how many times do we order what we want and the shop keeper has to wait for us to get our cards out and wait for the transaction to complete...I see your point also, its bad for business.

wave
I wonder if someone came in and started to shoplift would he have ignored them to.
RDM59, I'm talking about myself...laugh

Nah, the customer..wave
