did I do the right thing?

The other day I went to buy some chewing gum and chocolates, the seller was Moroccan and at that time was praying. Firstly, I asked him for some chocolates and he ignored me, he kept praying, total, after waiting about 30 seconds,I decided to go to the store was in front of his kiosk. I amazed by his attitude, I think he should stopped praying to earn some money.... do you think these are ways of behaving?..what would you have done if you were in my case?

waiting until he finish his prayer? or doing what I did.........super

thanks ariel28
@ ru4

But doesn't the shopkeeper also show disrespect for the customer by putting his own personal time ahead of theirs ?
Ariel ...tip hat
If I may add something similar to the case of the second link I posted... Here people smoke a lot. Some workers were hired by someone from another country and after they accomplished their job there he told him that he wouldn't hire them anymore. They were good workers so they asked why. He told them that it was because being smokers, they wasted too much time for coffee+cigarette breaks.

What I mean is: It's a personal choice to smoke, drink, pray or do endless private calls during the working time but there is always someone who doesn't do it....
I think that if it's more important for him to pray rather than cash a sale, then he should pray...

What would have I done should I have been in u place? Well .. I am dead sure I would have left all I had in hand on the desk and ran as fast as I could out of the store 0.00005 nano seconds after being ignored.

He's got his priorities ... I've got mine. Cheers to both beer
I agree with what you did...AND I agree with everyone else that said the shop should have been closed.

Praying is very private and in a shop open for business, I would think you would expect a few interrutions. This isn't fair to God or customers (Both of which deserve all of your attention) JMO
calpeboy, wave .. if the shop keeper was me, firstly I wouldn´t be busy praying, I´d be busy shaking the money maker and if I want to pray, I´ll close the kiosk for doing it right, without any obstacles and without harming anyone's feelings, is my humble opinion..

the question is... if u had to be the owner of the shop... would u employ a praying, good observant muslim sales-guy? I would not -law consenting. roll eyes
marijo70 i would do what you did.i would never go back, to the same seller.cheers
They have to make a choice either the money, or praying.
I would have waited till he prayed then made him wait five minutes for the money.Watch the reaction you get in return. It will not be patients.
RDM...frustratedI had vistors, the jehovah witness...laugh

'Ask your Aunty' is a page from the women weeklys...lol, there you ask such questions to a women (I think its a women..haha) about anything, she then replys with an answer the following week, that closest resembles what you want to hear. Ask her...
laugh cheers

Seriously though, religion in the workplace is law here, if they have a special thing they wish to do, such as pray, legaly they have the right to do so, if you hassel them about it, they will have you up for discrimation and can sue you. Jail is the same, they have to go with the persons religion...if they dont eat meat, the wardons have to make way for there religous needs...and no, I haven't been to jail, close, but no cigar...a little birdee told me.

I would have to respect his prayer time and his faith. he would do good to post his prayer times so that people know. i would never intrude upon someone's one on one with their beliefs.I would not expect him to stop and make his supreme being wait for a mortal.
@NotNed .. I agree.. thumbs up

@RDM59 .. Heyy he lady came to the store when he was praying. What do you expect. Let say he is a Muslim (though she didn't mention it exactly on her blog). Do you know that a Muslim cannot do other thing in the middle of his/her praying (cannot stop before the praying is done)except in an emergency which can harm him or harm other people? peace

@Marijo70 .. You did the right thing. You have all the rights to go to any store you want.. thumbs up just like he has all the rights to finish his praying..
Hi Mari..

im with you girl... you did the right thing.
Its what i would have done too
handshake cheers wave
Respect and tolerance for difference in cultures is important. We too have patterns of behaviour that are unusual to other cultures, and are tolerated by them . Cultural diversity is what makes the world an interesting place to live in, a person praying because of his faith in his shop as you wait should be appreciated , we are all gods children , we all share the planet earth, we all have rights of belief, and ways of worship. We all have the right to run our business as we care to . If you choose to go purchase items from a shop that is open fully for service then go , it is your right , just as it is his to take his time to pray. Or go to the toilet, or blow his nose, or answer the phone .......or conclude his service to a client in front of you.

I would have done the same..

I'm not an impatient person and have worked in retail, and give excellent service..yes there is an issue of customer not having their needs met.

there is also an issue of..how long does this prayer last..for all i know it could be 30 seconds to 30 mins..

so if by law u must respect others religions..catholics can all go for 35 mins 10 am mass each day? muslims pray possibly 2/3 times..

what if someone is a person who meditates..

why is someone choice to meditate instead of prayer under a 'religion' not taken seriously..is there a list of acceptable religions to which are taken seriously..and banned practises?

this is where it becomes very grey... somehow only a certain number of people have managed to have their needs met, why?

end of the day..like the pic above..u snooze..u lose. thats real world economics..and a society he chose to join when choosing a kiosk as his..breadwinner.
The Muslim practice of 5 prayers, at least 10 min long was established in another society and another time. So it can not easily match the requirements of a modern dynamic economical world. A businessman would break an important meeting to pray? Or will do it on the air plain? A lawyer will break his speech in the court to pray? A surgeon? Or a firefighter? These people discredit themselves this way because they are not reliable. But to each their own.
