Women's Day
Today we celebrate Women's Day
it has even achieved the honours of Public holiday Status
Because of migrant work, where the men employed far away from their homes, many of our rural families had women headed house-holds. this meant that we developed some very STRONG women in south Africa. Women who took on lead roles in different aspects of community life, family life and also in the business world. For me this is enough to celebrate Women's Day.
But on the dark side, women have also been subject to some of the worst astrocities, including mis-use, abuse, rape, disrepect, etc.
In addition to that women tend to be more prone to diseases such as cancer (specifically breast and cervical) and STD's (specifically AIDS and HIV, in the rural's this is primarily introduced through their husbands who bring it home after working away)
Because of the need to be SUPER HUMAN (fulfilling all these roles in their lives), these health issues are often neglected until it is too late to do anything about it.
This month of August we are made aware of women, their rights, their strengths, their weaknesses and their health.
I salute ALL women ACROSS the globe.
