Go outside and play...
Nature is wonderful and we should take time to enjoy it. Weekend getaways, even if your destinations remain close to home can be fun and exiting to plan. Why not plan a camping weekend, go fishing, boating, horse-riding or hiking through the woods? Even having suggested going away, remember that there is no need to be away from home to enjoy nature, don’t let yourself be shut indoors all the time.We spend a lot of time preparing food in our kitchens, which we then eat indoors, in front of the TV or at the dinner table. Some evenings, instead of getting stuck in the kitchen, make a fire and have a barbeque. Put on a little insect repellent to ward of the mosquitoes, find a comfortable seat where you can watch the fire, have a few drinks and look up at the moon and the stars.
In the daytime sit in a tranquil place outside, find a big beautiful tree to sit under. Prepare a table in the garden and enjoy breakfast outdoors every morning, make this your morning ritual to greet the day .To make this experience more pleasant try placing a bird feeder in your garden along with a fresh supply of water to attract the birds. If you live somewhere where this is not possible, then take some old bread or seed and feed the birds at the local park, lake or dam. Go for a walk, have a picnic in the park and take the family dog along if you can.
Create your own garden, get outside to water and nurture your plants regularly, enjoy planting your own vegetables and herbs. The aroma of freshly tilled earth can be invigorating, use those green fingers and get muddy hands once in a while. Apart from giving you much pleasure, those beautiful trees, shrubs and flowers will be much loved by the birds, bees and butterflies.
Appreciate the weather, rain or sunshine. Go outside and walk in the rain, feel the raindrops fall on your face. If you are fortunate to live in a country where you get snow, go outside and build a snowman and eat snowflakes. Lie on your back and look for pictures in the clouds. Feel the wind blow through your hair. Bask in the sun.
Go for a swim in a cool lake or in a swimming pool even if the water is a bit cold. Walk barefoot to feel the grass beneath your feet, connect with the earth and don’t be afraid to get a little dirty, allow the mud to squish between your toes. I am sure you have already thought of other ideas and activities that you might enjoy outdoors, that I haven’t already mentioned. Some of the best things in life are free, allow yourself some time to get outside and enjoy nature.

Do you think that people who stay inside most of the time could start to feel a little ill and even depressed?
I have noticed how teenagers don't like going outside anymore, they entertain themselves with technology, TV and games and cellphones... I always tell my kiddos to go outside and play.
My son struggles with this, he is glued to his pc games or playstation permanently
Have to drag him kicking and screaming to the pool
Those cold sensations might remind you that you are alive
Cold is no excuse
here is a video fit
if seen contact nonsmoker
Good luck with that sunburn and that's proof that you like it outdoors
I've been working in the hothouse the last few days, planting veggies and harvesting too... just a few minutes in there and I start melting... it is hell hot
I cant remember the last time I felt grass between my toes.
When I have my kids they get one hour each of TV or Video games a day. Truth be told they dont even miss it. They realy do make their own fun when the tech is off the table
I am concerned for my children, mostly my son who spends most of his time in classrooms, gets home and stays in his room playing games ofcourse...It is a challenge to encourage him to eat...nevermind get him to lift his bum of the chair and go play outside. It seems that children are almost afraid to go outside these days. Yet, I have fond memories of climbing trees and riding my bike and doing all sorts of outdoor activities as a young girl, because my Mum would simply say "Go and play outside"
I agree with Nonsmoker, that controlling the amount of time our kids spend watching TV or with other things like Games and internet is neccesary...
I just try to encourage my kids to get out and play more especially on weekends, it seems strange to them in some way, almost as though they feel lost out there in the garden without a gadget to play on
Itchy, I agree it is very sad to read the news about young kids that are affected by cyber bullies
Fire Ban Here!!
I agree, times have changed so much. When I was a kid, we went outside early in the morning, came home when we were hungry and at dinner time. Didn't know anything else. I agree, the kids need to be controlled with their video games. If my kids talk back, I simply tell them that they will respect my wishes or they will lose the right altogether. Take it away for a few days/weeks, they will know your serious. I know my ex was scared to death of someone taking off with one of the children if they went outside on their own. She was over the top with this fear. As they have gotten older, she now doesn't push them out the door much at all. When they are with me, I try to have a mix of activities, hiking, swimming, a walk down town, anything to get them out for a bit. Don't misunderstand, I am not the best at this either, but I do get them out often.
This sedentary lifestyle is creating young adults who don't know the value of hard work. I have seen such a drop off in work ethics in my industry over the past 15 years. It's rather sad. Here, everyone once things handed to them and don't like to work for there money.
Take Care Tangerino..........happy to see you around!
Yes, I agree that letting kids out to play on their own nowadays could be dangerous to a degree. The essence of my blog was really to encourage people to get out in the open once in a while anyway, get out of their cubicle so to speak.
I for one have locked myself away indoors for many hours and worked on my computer or was on the internet or CS and was inspired to write this piece about something I missed out on
These days I take my laptop to a coffee shop would be even more wonderful if I could do this out on a boat
I have been busy getting out to play
But feel special to know that someone has missed me
