One minute travel guide to enigmatic pluralism - 7
DAY 7 ( THE PENULTIMATE DAY OF OUR JOURNEY ) : GROCERY AND MOREThere are several hypermarkets in India where you can get anything from tortilla to tamarind, wasabi to walnut, and onion to organic foods. International chains like LULU presently operates in kochi only ( notable exception : metro cash-n-carry ). Lulu-kochi is one of world's top fifty largest malls. Walmart operates jointly with BHARTI group and under the name BEST PRICE. SPAR used to operate in bengaluru, delhi, and mangalore - now they are rebranded as AUCHAN. Amazon is also available. The most popular hypermarts are - big bazaar, reliance fresh, more megastore, metro cash-n-carry, d-mart, hypercity, and spencer's ( my favorite ) - the last one being the only national hypermart which stocks dozens of foreign liquors. Apart from these, there are thousands of malls ( some are super-speciality ie furnitures, electronic appliances, wedding apparels and sarees ) and eating joints ( macdonald's, subway, KFC ). Starbucks outlets are available in new delhi and mumbai at present. Dosa plaza is a pan-Indian chain which offers ninety nine varieties of lip-smacking dosas. Twenty-four hour eateries ( dine / home delivery ) are available in select cities like bengaluru. Bengaluru's touche diner is the only touchscreen-enabled restaurant in India. Ours is a seventh-largest retail market in the world. India has the highest number of retail outlets in the world at over thirteen million. It also has the highest number of outlets ( around twelve thousand ) per million inhabitants. The Indian economy is world's fourth largest in terms of PPP.
See you all soon in India!
