The modern kitchen is loaded with gadgets

The average urban kitchen has more gadgets than a geek in his studio!

Now that's indeed a deliberate exaggeration, but you do get my point, don't you?!!

The first gadget which entered our kitchen was a first generation jiggle valve hawkins pressure cooker. That was a red letter day as it marked the entry of kitchen gadgets in the household.

Soon after, a manual-defrost kelvinator ( long before it was acquired by whirlpool / electrolux / videocon ) refrigerator was bought. No playstation could ever match the thrill ( of making and playing with artificial ice ) that it offered me in childhood.

( Is there anything that we could possibly do to gift our descendants a real intrinsic childhood and save 'em from electronic junk? Don't know really. )

And then - a philips sliced-bread toaster, a conduction-type fixed-temperature baking oven, and also a juicer-mixer-grinder.

The popularity of JMG has somewhat diminished now due to the easy availability of ground ( ie in powder form ) spices and tetrapak-ed juices.

It was nothing but my true love for sandwiches that fuelled the urge to buy the sandwich toaster ( again from the philips' stable ) a decade ago. But the food processor ( electric veggie chopper and grater ) wasn't a wise investment as it's a lot easier and quicker to cut 'em using a humble knife.

Have you successfully guessed what's the latest kitchen gadget that joined our family?

Nope, it's not the microwave oven or the electric chimney or the hottest ( pun definitely intended! ) selling item of 2013 aka induction cooker, it's the philips air fryer - a must for every health-conscious people on earth.

That's all for now. Stay tuned and don't forget to clean your kitchen gadgets!!

( Hawkins is an Indian pressure cooker and utensils manufacturer which exports its products to all the six continents and the top and bottom images are of a second generation spring valve hawkins pressure cooker and also of a third generation ie electric pressure cooker respectively. )

I can remember when having running hot water in the kitchen was considered modern, most people had a gas geyser & there was one in my first flat, they had a habit of lighting slowly & the build up of gas would throw you back across the kitchen when it finally did, I've come full circle now as I have a not dissimilar unit here.
