To sell..or not to sell

For the past 24 years I have lived in the same house but now my children have grown up and left except for the youngest one who is currently at college...of Late I'm finding my home way to big and empty...some of my friends have advised me to sell up and move into a smaller place ..perhaps even down by the coast somewhere...which sounds soooo inviting...

but on the other hand I have many sentimental reasons for remaining where I am....none of which comfort me when I'm all alone at night and besides it is becoming increasingly hard on my pets as well...

Miss Kitty!wave Looking at your profile pics, one said "my favorite place, my garden"! Another...."home and enjoying it". My friend, think very seriously about giving up something you truly enjoy! Before you decide to sell your home, take a short vacation to where you thought you might want to live and see how you like it!thumbs up Then it will make it easier to decide!hug
ah kitty not ten years on cs ten years of constant movinggrin about 6 years cs in one position toomoping wave
Hi. To sell the house always a problem. I sell the house 3 years. I think the owner will be when time will come. I wish you good luck.

@Gentlejim...yes..as stated in my profile I do love my garden and home and every little nook and cranny is filled with dear and special memories...... of years gone by... uh oh
....I do however believe that I am now at a turning point in my life where its time to start afresh and make new memories somewhere else... yay
My younger formative years were spent down by the sea and yes Port Elizabeth was my home town...hence the first pic of where I recently spent a vacation...rolling on the floor laughing rolling on the floor laughing rolling on the floor laughing
I do still have family down there who are encouraging me to move back to the coast once again....ahh what a dilemma..confused dunno help ...thanks for your great advice..makes total sense...thumbs up wine
I sold my house in Polokwane where I lived for 25 years and moved to the coast. It was one of the best things I did for myself.
@Ummka..thanks for the good luck..I'm going to need it for sure...hug teddybear
@ekke...wow...that is encouraging to hear...you most certainly were very brave to tackle such a task..I'm very impressed and glad it worked out for you...thank you for your kind words.. hug teddybear
Kittyjoy, sorry for the late replay, but, I've been away. I think maybe it can be hard to sell your place, but then again to sell the home where your kids grow up is not fun for anybody... BUT; it is only a house, and I think you will be much better off in a smaller place where you can have guest rooms for the kids to live in when needed. The house you own noe is only a empty shell who contains all the things from your lie and those you can bring with you. If I have had the cance I would go for the fact that mowing the lawn and such does not get easier year by year... it gets harder. Now you are lucky enough not not have snow where you live, but still... selling is a big time change to make it good and to create a new home for you and to greet the kids home in... so I say go for it, nothing can beat a new home. hug teddybear hug
@Wel....you are so right...as time goes on I'm finding it increasingly harder to take care of the house and the garden and yes without a family it is just an empty shell of memories....to hold on to something just for sentimental reasons will hinder you from moving on with your life and perhaps finding a new life.... one filled with potential joy and happiness...who knowsdunno but unless you let go you will never know what lies just around the corner for you....uh oh hug teddybear
At the end of the day it's a possession.
The memories you have will go wherever you do.
Let commonsense prevail.............. move to Australia laugh
For some reason there are quite a few SA, living here.
Hi Kittyjoy, wave is there a possibility that one of your kids is interested in living at home at some stage?

All of our family love our home place, my sister lives next door to my mum, my brother converted the house - mum has one story, my brother and his family the other and I had a separate place in the house, too. Separate entrances, everyone expecting boundaries and not just walking in, it works fine most of the time. I couldn't imagine living somewhere else should I ever go back to Germany. handshake
Howzit Kitty. A friend of mine recently moved from Joburg to Cape Town...something she swore she would never do. She's absolutely loving it! wink
@Mrwilling.....mmm move to Australia?....like most South Africans I too can claim to have relatives in Aussie.... who have invited me over but I declined...somehow I can't see myself relocating way down under...even with all its political and economic instability South Africa still tugs at my heart strings....thanks for the suggestion tho...handshake wine
@KNenagh....wow your mom is one blessed lady for sure....I would love to have my kids live close by and I would certainly invest in alterations to my property in order to accommodate and respect my children's privacy...but I have only daughters and the two older ones have chosen to life with their significant other and the youngest is hardly ever at home...soon out the door as wellsigh crying ...but we bring this on ourselves by rearing our kids to be independent.....roll eyes professor rolling on the floor laughing
@unlaoised...so like ekke you also have first hand knowledge of a good outcome from someone moving down to the coast and loving it...mmm interesting...more and more I think I'm leaning in that direction...for sure....thanks for sharing that positive note with me...hug teddybear
being attached to somebody or sth that soothes our heart, we tend to be with it.... after all it is an intact remnant which has sheltered u half ur life........ if i were u, i would nt have given a thought to sell it...
