To sell..or not to sell

For the past 24 years I have lived in the same house but now my children have grown up and left except for the youngest one who is currently at college...of Late I'm finding my home way to big and empty...some of my friends have advised me to sell up and move into a smaller place ..perhaps even down by the coast somewhere...which sounds soooo inviting...

but on the other hand I have many sentimental reasons for remaining where I am....none of which comfort me when I'm all alone at night and besides it is becoming increasingly hard on my pets as well...

@ Nakitende.....yes I agree it certainly is a decision only I can make...its a question of sentimentality vs practicalities...thanks for the support though...thumbs up
id sell, get a smaller place.a house is only bricks and mortar,a home is what you make it
aaaaaah...inspector jarred1....thanks for your excellent detective work...yes you are 100% correct...and I recently spent several absolutely lovely days down there....wine handshake
I'd say sell up. Before your pets leave you.laugh

My cat won't put up with that.rolling on the floor laughing

Btw. I'm in the process of selling my house for the same reasons.

In SA letting out rooms is not an option.

if i am on your position, I would rather stay in that house and not selling it. coz it built with a lot of memories. it still can be used as warm " villa" to all your kids and g-kids when they spend a holiday with you, right? wish you have a wonderful Sunday..hug bouquet wave
@ladyofrage575...thanks for your advice...I thought about renting it out but have heard so many horror stories of negligent tenants ruining your property that I decided against it...wow uh oh
@benni2.....you are sooooo absolutely right...your house is nothing without someone to share it with....thumbs up wine

Turn it in to a bed and breakfast place ,grin
i normally am kittylaugh if its the taught of leaving so many memories behind, just remember you will always have them and now get the oportunity to make new ones.at the end of the day it comes down to what feels right for you and the boring old practicalities
@Cat......rolling on the floor laughing rolling on the floor laughing rolling on the floor laughing your advice sounds just like my friends...they were taking pity on my poor pets at the time.
and yes...I agree about taking a huge risk with letting out your property in SA...wow uh oh no way...

@ Kitty, like I said 10 times this is a decision only you can make. If there are any regrets after then it will be too late. Take your time, do it right the first time.comfort wine
@danielangelvega....mmm...I thought about that but unfortunately my neighbour beat me to it...so now I have a B&B directly opposite me...sigh way to close for competition....nice idea thothumbs up wine
If you go for sentimental part it will still remind you of empthy house where your kids lived and if you pick practical part than it may be hard at first to accept changes but in time you may get use to but at the end it's only you who can decide what's best for youwave
How about turning it in to a dinner n chair , to compete with the Bed n breakfast idea grin rolling on the floor laughing
Keep them, when you are not in this world, give yr house to your children
@Red....ai ai...I know you are right....our memories live in our hearts and no matter where we go they will always be with us..but I'm finding that each little thing in my house somehow has a memory attached to it and by packing it up or getting rid of it feels like you are doing the same to the memory...that's such a crazy notion.confused
Happy to hear you are moving closer to your kids and grandkids...that's wonderful...dancing thumbs up wine
@benni2....yes you are right once again....perhaps its time to make new memories....applause dancing
thanku Kitty 3rd May (d) daypeace I have moved too much to be attached to a house or area, sometimes it makes you feel homelessmoping so I think my life has downsides, which I am going to put right now.peace teddybear
I think I have lived in CS home longer than anywhere for last 10years or so.rolling on the floor laughing rolling on the floor laughing
I'm just wondering why property owners around here bother to waste all that money on websites when they could just let Jarred market it for them professor laugh rolling on the floor laughing wine
scold Kittyj: Are you really thinking about selling your pet, for a smaller pet? Anywho! Selling the house is up to you. Down sizing doesnt sound bad at all. location, location, location! When down sizing.
@enigma2....yes I agree I alone will have to make the call in the end...but someone once pointed out to me that perhaps the kids would far more enjoy visiting me if I had a place down by the sea...rolling on the floor laughing rolling on the floor laughing rolling on the floor laughing
@Luke....your advice is sound as always my friend...thumbs up it is always wise to take your time when making important decisions like this one.....regret later on could make for a poor bed fellow worse than no bed fellow in a large empty house.....laugh hug
@danielangelvega...mmm Bed & Chair....rolling on the floor laughing now there's an idea..maybe I can rent a portion of my property to them and cater for the overflow....verrrrry clever Mr D....thumbs up beer
@woodenjc...I know it is good to be able to leave property for your children to inherit and I am very blessed in this regard...but does it have to be my current home or can it be a small place down by the sea where perhaps I would be more content and happy?....conversing dunno ..but thank you for you advice anyway
@Red...wow 10 years adrift with CS as your only home base ...amazing...but I sure wish you with all my heart all the best in your new place...I really hope you settle down there and your home will be filled with lots of joy and laughter....hug teddybear teddybear teddybear
@zmountainman....awww man...maybe I should have called him agent Jarred...yes sir...estate agent Jarred for all your property needs...perhaps Jarred would like to add a 007 at the end of his name...rolling on the floor laughing

@Jarred...just kidding...I personally think its awesome of you to be able to sniff these things out...quite cool actually thumbs up dancing
If you had actually put a pic in of your home it would've been sold by now. Courtesy Jarred.
@Angelpepper....rolling on the floor laughing rolling on the floor laughing rolling on the floor laughing if I were to really dress my pets like that then they would be the first to yell...sell sell sell....
But you are right location is very important...an absolute must if you wish to make a return on your investment in the long term.
@Luke....oh my gosh I didn't think of that...I'm just a bit nervous about the commission fee Jarred might require for his most professional services...I'm not sure if I could afford it dunno confused
