I've been pondering.....

....having lived in the Uk up until I was 46..now residing in the Middle east..I have to say its opened my eyes for many reasons..We as westerners are so use to reading the papers, seeing the news and looking at muslims, not all I will add, as nut jobs. But it was not until I worked in and around these people, from all countries, how ignorant us as westerners really are.

Im not religious in any way shape of form, and Im still amazed peole believe it...however i work with and have many people under my management that are muslims..I can can say they would give me there last bottle of water..their last meal..I can honestly say I have meet some of the nicest people I have ever met in these past 2 years in the Middle East..I still do not like the way women are regarded, but hopefully this will change.

Ive been on the other side hearing and seeing their plights, i really see how the US is really despised now with its gun ho approach.lets bomb and ask question later...the fear we are put upon about Iran..These people are lovely !!!!.

So when some one says all Muslims are bad..go and travel and work with these people and be educated..Last year I was working in a Huge building on a project and we had a few Bangaldesh and Pakistani workers..This one Pakistani came from a very conservative background..and his opinion of westerners was bad..he was brainwashed as to what to expect..with in 2 weeks i taught this man many things on how to work and educated him and took time to show him how to improve his work ethic....This man cried when I left..I changed his opinion of what he was taught about us...

Now, on the flip side of this I cannot stand hypocrites..and I have to say there are many in religion, many in the muslim religion..and it bugs me when I see these guys praying 5 times a day..beating their wives..abusing children..beating and raping their maid and so it goes on...i also work in hospitals I can can tell you some very disturbing stories..we are all individual, but do not hide behind something when you are responsible for your own actions..

But in general the good far out way the bad here in the Middle east..so friendly and welcoming.

I love the UK but when I see the Jeremy Kyle show I think..is this what we are in the UK !!!

Hi Ian, I ve been in Dubai and have some experience in working with people from muslim countries. Yes, in general they are very friendly and kind, just very different. To me - there are good and bad people everywhere in any culture or religion. Doesnt matter muslim or christian. Both have some very radical fanatic followers. unfortunately.
Yep. He's the difference, though. The governments. And the governments are representative of the people as a whole over a long period of time. wink
Here's............
@zmountain: Yes. I've seen jarred make that mistake aswell. The foolish man doesn't realise that the pic is the thumbnail that appears at the top of other people's profiles. Even his own pic will search in the same manner.

That said, we're talking about a man who had pics up of someone very very different that what he has up now. laugh laugh
MD, that's what comes of spending years blogging, you end up twice the man you once were laugh rolling on the floor laughing laugh
As for making mistakes with age.... your years of age is dictated by a drop down menu of your year of birth. I have found with age mistakes, past a certain point, age mistakes ALWAYS go one direction. A bit like sub-concious bias when you get short changed by the teller in the shop. laugh laugh
Hi Ian, I consider myself to be very fortunate to be surrounded by Muslims all my life. I'm a Malaysian of Chinese ancestry, 3rd generation in fact. My late grandpa was a devout Buddhist, grandma a Catholic. The household where I grew up in, we speak 3 different languages (btw, English is my 3rd language) and few other Chinese dialects. The row of houses in the neighbourhood consisted of people of different faith and religion.

I was sent to a Malay school where majority of my classmates were Malay Muslims. We got along just fine. I was the only non-Muslim in my netball team. When we went for competition in neighbouring state, I just patiently waited for my fellow Muslim team mates to finish their evening prayers, Maghrib, before we devoured the halal Malay cuisine, using our fingers to eat. During the festive celebration- Eid-Ul-Fitr,after a month long fast, together with my other Chinese and Indian classmates, we'd cycled under the hot scorching sun to visit all our Muslim classmates' houses. We feasted upon rows and rows of gourmet delights. Some of them might not be rich at all but they were the most generous people I've ever had the fortune to come across.

Now, in adulthood, I still keep in touch with most of my Muslim friends around the world via yes, FB and I agree with you totally Ian, most of them are the nicest people around and I'm proud to call them my very very good friends....
