I've been pondering.....

....having lived in the Uk up until I was 46..now residing in the Middle east..I have to say its opened my eyes for many reasons..We as westerners are so use to reading the papers, seeing the news and looking at muslims, not all I will add, as nut jobs. But it was not until I worked in and around these people, from all countries, how ignorant us as westerners really are.

Im not religious in any way shape of form, and Im still amazed peole believe it...however i work with and have many people under my management that are muslims..I can can say they would give me there last bottle of water..their last meal..I can honestly say I have meet some of the nicest people I have ever met in these past 2 years in the Middle East..I still do not like the way women are regarded, but hopefully this will change.

Ive been on the other side hearing and seeing their plights, i really see how the US is really despised now with its gun ho approach.lets bomb and ask question later...the fear we are put upon about Iran..These people are lovely !!!!.

So when some one says all Muslims are bad..go and travel and work with these people and be educated..Last year I was working in a Huge building on a project and we had a few Bangaldesh and Pakistani workers..This one Pakistani came from a very conservative background..and his opinion of westerners was bad..he was brainwashed as to what to expect..with in 2 weeks i taught this man many things on how to work and educated him and took time to show him how to improve his work ethic....This man cried when I left..I changed his opinion of what he was taught about us...

Now, on the flip side of this I cannot stand hypocrites..and I have to say there are many in religion, many in the muslim religion..and it bugs me when I see these guys praying 5 times a day..beating their wives..abusing children..beating and raping their maid and so it goes on...i also work in hospitals I can can tell you some very disturbing stories..we are all individual, but do not hide behind something when you are responsible for your own actions..

But in general the good far out way the bad here in the Middle east..so friendly and welcoming.

I love the UK but when I see the Jeremy Kyle show I think..is this what we are in the UK !!!

world is going crazy cheers
Nice blog Ian, what you say is most true. But what I think religion is not the issue, how they grew up, what they hear sine they were kids. I enjoyed your blog have a good day!
It's a matter of logic that all Middle Eastern, or all Western people aren't all a certain way.

It's beyond me how anyone buys into that.

Good blog. tip hat
having lived both in England and a muslim country, all I can say is people are people and when it comes to what people believe and willing to die for is another topic on its own, so as per always, dont try to change my believes and i wont force you on minewine
I've been pondering

hmmm

why people lie on their profile about their age. roll eyes

You already said on a previous blog that you're 50 soon and you still have 43 on your profile.
yes..was a typing error..ive tried to change it many times in the edit bit but its won't ...so I gave up
Well hopefully Jeremy Kyle is NOT what England represents!!!!! I won`t watch that programme as it deprsses me doh Yes, we do have some people like that who are confrontational and unpleasant with little or no standards, but we have also have many wonderful people with great family values and love of mankind. hug
My exprience with Muslims is a good and positive one. I myself am christian but the taxi drivers around here are mainly Muslims and are by and large VERY respectful kind and good people who love their families and show great respect to me. We often talk about religion and look for what we have in common. peace
By and large I think people in general are good, kind honest people just trying to get through this life in a happy way and help others on their journey. yay
Good blog wave

Might it be worth making a note on your profile about your age typing error?

It might save you an accusation, or missed opportunity, or two. Rightly, or wrongly, people will extrapolate from where they perceive 'untruths'.

The first thing I thought when I read KN's post was, "Oh dear. How will that affect the credibility of this very good blog in viewer's eyes?"
Ian, I went on a date once with a guy who lied about his age - he was at least 10 years older than claimed and could have been my father. I never would have met him if I would have known and I never saw him again - less because of his age, but because he LIED.

He actually was a lovely guy with nice manners and I wonder how many women passed him over because of the simple fact he lied. conversing

If that photo is current you are an attractive guy not looking anywhere your age! wine
doh *not looking anywhere near your age.

Can you edit your complexion in a mandatory tick box on your profile? Only I would have liked a halcyon period between teenage spots and wrinkles. giggle

I did my leaving in the only girls school in town - we had a big percentage of girls from Muslim countries.

I had big time for the girls, we all hung out together but listening to their home life and what they weren't allowed to do - I wouldn't have wanted to swap with them to live an as restricted life as most of them did. There was sneaking around if they had a boyfriend (no way their fathers were allowed to know about that) and that their parents picked a guy for them was a given in a lot of cases.

We have our 20 year school reunion in June, I'm looking forward to seeing a good few of the girls again.
So many comments are turning away from your topic. It is an informative blog. I knew little about mid east and muslim people. We should view others without bias. They are individual.bouquet
Good blog.thumbs up wine
@ Jarred...he is who he says he is...take my word for it.angel
Ian just proves really good and bad in every country and culture. That's humans for youhandshake
Ian, I think what the member is going on about re your profile is that he's done a picture search but doesn't understand what's there, he's forgetting that on top of everyone's profile is a line of pictures from other members in their area, therefore he thinks because it mentions another member on the search that you must have 2 profiles, I have tried to explain this to him before without success doh
