so you built a boat ..

The best bits of any love affair are when you are totally and completely in sync. You don’t even realize that you are, because everything is so smooth, there’s no friction, it all feels utterly right. The boat is sailing into the sunset and everything is lovely.

The worst bits of any love affair are when one or the other suddenly does something completely out of sync and you hit a sandbank, the boat tips over, you fall out and you are into the ‘how could you DO that?’ and ‘what were you THINKING?’ conversations and realizing this little boat is extremely frail and you probably shouldn’t be trusting it to carry you over the seas of life at all.

So then it is down to swimming away or working together to lift the boat back into the water and sail on, both now slightly anxiously watching the horizon and each other and slowly relaxing again.

There are lots of sandbanks, and tricky currents, and whirlpools. No maps. And yet people do it all the time, build little boats together and confidently set sail, a little flotilla of boats looking for that horizon and that safe mooring.

This metaphor could need work. wink

@ VivianLee - The up side is that you learn to build a sturdier boat and carry better safety equipment such as a sea anchor to ride out the next storm..... conversing grin

Haha that's why guys make the best sailors!
Great blog... Hate hitting those sandbanks, the water is always cold and I'm not a good swimmer so it feels wonderful when the boat is repaired.
@ VivianLee - I wouldn't go so far to say that, Girl, In 2009 Australia's Jessics Watson was only 16 years old when she solo-sailed around the world...... cudos for Girl-power... cheering

Swimming away is a better option than to repair it, to see it overturned again and again to drown you. crying

One advantage to sailing alone is no-one to blame when the waters turn stormy. But also no-one to turn to. Her achievement was extraordinary.
