It's A Festivus - For The Rest Of Us! || From '14
'Tis the Season for old traditions & I'm resurrecting this from '14 - a nostalgic stroll down memory lane. Some here will remember commenters who've since moved on. And there's been at least one addition - Mimi'73 has morphed into MiMiArt ... Enjoy.
Yep! December 23. That most sacrilegious and sarcastic of all Holidays (anti-holiday ) has rolled around once again!
This relative newcomer to the Holiday Season was sprung upon an unsuspecting public during a 1997 episode of Seinfeld. Since then, it has gained popularity among the jaded, those fed up with commercialization, seeking to ritualize family dysfunction...or simply looking for yet another reason to party.
Or eat cupcakes.
So c'mon, y'all party animals! Set up your Bare Aluminum Festvus Pole (I find tinsel distracting)! Burn the hell out of the traditional Ketchup-Glazed Meatloaf! Gather friends & family near to you - for The Airing Of The Grievances Engage one another in the Feats of Strength And remember the Festivus Rule - IT AIN'T OVER 'TIL THE HEAD OF THE HOUSE IS PINNED TO THE GROUND!
What sort of Festvus Miracles might we expect THIS year? :

In my family we just love celebrations.. BUT we do fun and love in a BIG way. Don't know that I can fit another in just now though Already celebrated spiritually enjoyed so much acts of service party wise and just general HAPPY HAPPY times with friends and family and we have more on our agenda Our door is always open all year ... But Christmas time we like to fill it as much as poss....though now and again like right now... Peace and quiet is appreciated
Not sure what else we can expect but I'm sure somebody will think of something!!!
Have a HAPPY Festivus day!!!!!
Dan O'Keefe was a writer for the show. About 1966, his father tired of the commercialization of the traditional holidays. (Aluminum Christmas Trees probably put him over the line! ) He instituted a family tradition of his own.
Thirty years later, Dan used "Seinfeld" as the medium to share Festivus. ..with the rest of us!
Nom...Nom...Nom...
Maybe you could make up some special Festivus cupcakes!
According to Dan O'Keefe, their original Festivus dessert was Pepperridge Farms Cake. Custom decorated with m&ms. Do ya think you could work something like that into a cupcake configuration?
Next step...Skype. They normally love what they see
After I shop for presents today...lol...I will probably do something low key anyways...thanks for the reminder of Festivus for the rest of us!!
You know, would love love love to share those yummy cupcakes with you but.............I ate them all
Yeahhh! It's Festivus Time!
Yesssss, Mimi!!!
How are ya enjoying the day?
Have you carried off any Festivus Miracles?
Is That's You?
You Go Girl!
Either that or someone put Mimi's face on the pic of a Chinese Yeti!
You So Silly!.....
You is my silly Willie.
There's much room for individualism here. Also confusion.
The confusion arises from disagreement on what was served at the Seinfeld feast.
Some folks see spaghetti. Others a Ketchup-Glazed Meatloaf.
The original O'Keefe Festivus usually featured turkey or ham.
A.variety of burgers, pizza & beer might be a good choice!
How do y'all intend to celebrate this most sacrilegious and sarcastic day?
The Chinese version is much...Much cuter!
DAYUM! How'd ya like to do Festivus Feats Of Strength with THAT S of a B?
MERRY CHRISTMAS TO YOU AND YOUR FAMILY... AND A SPECIAL FESTVUS CELEBRATION TO YOU! Christmas Love to you as found in Christ.
HEEEEY EVERRRE-BODY! there a prata going on up in heeerrrr, up in herrrr! LET'S PARTA! PARTA! PARTA! UP-IN-HERR-UP-IN-HERRR!
That can mean only ONE thing -
IT'S A FESTIVUS MIRACLE!!!
Festivus CANNOT end until the head of the house is pinned to the floor!
Festivus affecianados have learned it is best to hold the celebration in the homes of grandparents. Or great-grandparents. It make this ritual sooo much easier if you only have to lay out & flatten a super annuated codger or aged crone.
HAPPY FESTIVUS, Y'ALL!!!
OR -
Happy Chanukah!
Merry Christmas!
Happy Kwanzaa!
Happy Holidays!
Season's Greetings!
Happy Saturnalia!
