Gullible

I was just reading this post on the recent news about this Filipina who is going to be executed in Indonesia. I feel so sorry for her but I cannot help but wonder why some people prey on other people who appear to be vulnerable and gullible? Don't they have anything else to do with their lives? Whether it is online or in real life, some people like to prey on others to extract money from them. It is amazing how they are so heartless. I do not blame the victims. Some people say that they have no brains because they allowed themselves to be victims. But remember, we do not know know the whole story why they gave in to this scams.

When will society ever change?

I am pleased to report the American State of Utah (home of the Mormon religion) recently voted to approve returning to the firing squad as a method of execution.

As the article shows shooting tends to be 9 times faster than lethal injection as a cause of death. Not quite as quick as beheading, but we haven't made guillotines in awhile.

The last famous Utah execution of Gary Gilmore was done by tax payers who volunteered to fire the fatal shot and were chosen by lottery.

It remains to be worked out what method will be chosen for selecting future executioners.
Russel Brand on what's the real drug Problem:

drug problem in Indonesia of course

Well, that's one of the bigger issues here (next to the ones who will be executed) the police officers who have to perform the task read this, even though some have blanks and some bullets the executioners don't know who did it, I would not want to be them in return for 3 wishes from my favorite genie..

There was a movie in the 70's called Midnight ?????? something that was about I believe 2 Americans smuggling drugs into Turkey, quite a horrific experience....I don't remember the details, but the plot stuck in my mind. Midnight Express... that's just my memory cranking up, could be wrong...
<when I am travelling to any foreign countries...I educate myself on their laws and abide by their laws..>

So Lou, which country then can we legally traffic some drugs??rolling on the floor laughing rolling on the floor laughing

Your too funny!!...lol...but you have to admit...it is a logical thought!!...I have been in airports in South East Asia that have huge signs stating what can happen if you choose to smuggle drugs...

Do you think the executioners are sleeping well at night?...in the US...it is a more clinical approach...regulations and routine...easier to kill people...but perhaps the firing squad views this as routine as well?...
Here's the wiki story of the Midnight Express movie...it was a true story, great movie for back in 1978.....happy ending, hopefully this one in Indonesia will end up the same, but it doesn't look good...The president said that some 50 drug trafficers will be executed, they did some in January and more to come.
@ Lou, I don't see posted clips on here - guess, I've missed some installation updates.

@ Sands, thanks for sharing. I've read other articles, more accurate. If the heart isn't perfectly hit by the bullet it can take up to 15 minutes for the victim to die. 15 minutes because that's how long they'll wait to give the bullet to the head.

I won't be posting the article which describes in details what's happening in a human body after being hit with a bullet in the heart. Somebody may get off on it.

Will check the movie out and I am glad that it ends well...wine
lou, not according to that one guard who gave the interview. He says it's his last time, they send them to like 3 days of therapy after they do it...I would not want to be their souls......
bali
Too bad you cannot view the clip but others might...he gives a different perspective on the government's intentions...

I personally would be traumatized if that was a job I had to do...I am glad they have counselling for them and I think they should be compensated for this...PTSD...can really be difficult to overcome...
Lou, oh yes their compensated for this heinous act......$100 for you Europeans 107.7 Euros.......unreal
Thanks Lou, got it on my other puter - it's the same clip as I've posted elderly woman style laugh
In case anybody is interested, latest news on why the two Australian man should be dying. They're guilty of not having had enough bribe money.

Thanks for the information...will take a look...wine
One hundred per shot, or one hundred per day?

laugh
@Stormy, sorry for the extra zero. That salary was meant to be 3000 US dollars approximately in those days exchange rate.
Not a problem. Thank you so much for all the very interesting information that you have shared. I guess as fellow travelers, whether we are for death penalty or not, we should just be vigilant in making sure that we will not become victims of people like them. By making sure that our luggage is safe and only talk to airport personnel or if we are with friends, just be with them. IF we do meet new people along our travels, to make sure we do not give them our luggage lollaugh
Yes indeed and don't trust anyone. Inspection of your luggage is important before you board the plane.

I hope our petition is going to work. I just wrote letters to our senator and congressman.

Gee, I never would have guessed!

And about pretty much anything meaningful it appears...

I think it is important for youth to be aware of what happens abroad if you think drug smuggling is going to be a mere wrist slap...foolish of those two young men to risk their lives for some cash in hand...I feel for them and what a predicament to be in...sigh
Sorry I misquoted elsewhere, meant Morgan not Muldoon. Dan Morgan, aka Mad Dog Morgan. Clearly we are not supposed to remember certain aspects of Australian history.

I never thought of myself as a activist. No idea where that distortion came from. laugh

From the Guardian

Indonesian television is also reporting that the executions of eight prisoners – all men – have taken place, but that the Filipina woman, Mary Jane Veloso, was spared at the last minute, after a woman accused of tricking her into carrying drugs turned herself into police in the Philippines on Tuesday.

There are reports that the executions took place at around 00.25 local time.

I must stress that there has still been no official confirmation of either the deaths or the reprieve."
Well I am pleased to find out that she has been spared. But you know probably, the woman who put her in this predicament in the first place was caught way before and the Philippine government used this information as a trump card (if I did not get the term wrong) to stop the execution.
Dude that's not my words. That's the CS choice. Volunteer was the accutate one. Activist and non-profit is something CS sticks in with Volunteer.

Regarding your question, no thanks. I have spoken to enough Australians who came here to not wish to go there.

Regarding meeting LJ, nothing appeals. No thanks.

BTW, LJ, you do know Indonesia has Hindu too don't you?
Ok to the nameless one who writes but blocks email replies, Page 82 I was just reminded of. LoL was looking in blogs, forgot about Forums. Yes, that was just show the importance of not telling silly lies about your reading it. Now if you had said Penguin, you would have been more credible, but you didn't. You named someone that didn't buy the Penguin for decades.
Ok. No more silly name calling and irrational chants. Peace be with you Ken. And goodbye.

The first years that I have known you, you exhibited decency. Right now I would love to focus on justice which is oblivious to the world as of now.

I'm happy my prayers are answered for this innocent person to live another day.
Of course a second good reply would have been Viking. Viking and Penguin became sister companies in 75. Both printed it in 88/89. The Penguin Random House reprint is marked C 2008.
