End of the two projects

It is with some sadness (not) I announce the completion of both of the day's projects. It only took 4 or 5 days to do them. Next time I will choose something harder. Again, not. laugh

My sincere appreciation to those who provided usable feedbacks as the work progressed. I hope all of you enjoyed it.

Keep up the good work bro. Interesting.thumbs up cheers cheers
Ken...Impressive work done by your DR. I am the one who was looking for riding mower for 1.5 acres of mowing. Told you I would let you know what I found..after much seeking/comparing and webcrawling....basically my local area here is out of many mowers and I did not want to wait for something to be ordered in. I purchased a Poulan Pro 46" cut rider with 22 hp Kohler engine...the model I bought is new this year so I was not able to read any reviews on it....guess I will be one who writes one of the first! Not so confident about buying without past reviews but it is doing good job so far! I heard some good things word of mouth about Kohler engines...will hope all holds true!....Avias conversing
Avias - Yes, I remember. I have no problems with any of my Kohler motors and there are a few around here.

My problems have been with Poulan. Specifically their chain saws. I have had two and am done with that brand. Both units literally melted under steady use. Clearly Poulan envisions a consumer who chain saws 10 minutes and is done, not someone cutting down a forest and running the unit for hours on end. I am sure your Kohler motor will not be the cause of any problems on your new mower. You know you have a one year manufacturer's warranty in the US on anything you buy new here. So I forsee no problems for at least 366 days. :)
Ken....Thanks and I will mark the day on the calendar...if it passes that time and still going strong...big celebration time! :)))) Sorry to hear about you and Poulan chainsaws....maybe I can report good things about their riding mowers!
Luke, the US standard for most things used to be 1/4" and 9/16". I can pretty much totally disassemble an entire old time International or John Deere engine with just those two sockets.

Sometime in the 1970s it seems to have become the 'in thing' for design engineers to change the bolt head size as often as possible. Of course this is the same mind set that believes 'repair by owner' is evil, compared to bringing it to a franchised service center or buying a new machine for no good reason. So it makes sense things be made by them as hard for an owner to repair as possible.

Extensive reading last night on these Chinese pull cord motors. I may pick up a few in the 8 HP range. Certainly lower cost the the Briggs and Strattons (which aren't really made in America anymore anyway), and based on my experience with this one, easy enough to maintain. I can''t tell if the Kohler XT series actually is the Chinese Predator brand or is one a clone of the other? Who knows? Noticing they both retail for about the same price. In any case what sits on my Cub Cadet is clearly a Predator under a yellow casing labeled Cub Cadet.
Nice clearing of the field Ken and the mower... that was neat. You're really good at showing and talking people through a project.. I think you'd be great teaching instructional classes on how to fix things!

Nice job! wine
