It's The Thought That Counts...NOT Always!
I'm NOT complaining...I just want to whine a little bitWe've just had a little Christmas party at work...then we had that "Secret Santa" thing. The rule was you pick a name and buy him/her a gift not less than 15JDs, that's about $21. Well, I was excited about it and put a lot of thoughts on my present. I picked the name of my vegetarian colleague and bought him a wooden sculptor of an Eagle worth 25JDs and I can tell from his reaction that he's very happy with what he got and rightly guessed that it was from me
I had hard time unwrapping the present that had my name, it was tightly wrapped with lots of sticky tapes and bows... really excited about it but got a little disappointed when it was finally revealed : A Coffe Mug worth 2 JDs I had hard time guessing who's the meanie who gave it to me... OK, my first reaction was disappointment, it probably showed on my face but hey, the mug says: SUPERMOM I gave her a hug and a nice "thank you" for that cheap but lovely mug...
One of the guy was obviously disappointed...he got 3 gift voucher from Mothercare worth exactly 5jds each. Why would one give a man, a young single man gift vouchers from Mothercare ? A shop full of children's clothing
Well, they say it's the thought that counts but sometimes we can't help feeling disappointed when we feel that they didn't put a lot of thought when giving you a present
Have a great day/night everyone

Have a great night /day also.
All these years I still have that mug.
He gave me a sweater one year that zips up the front which I love cause it came from him but I wish it was a different color.
Sometimes all we can do is be greatful that someone took the time to think about us.
I used to give people gift cards or cash cause that way they could get what they wanted.
Thanks If he will have the mug, I will eagerly take his gift vouchers
Thanks! Merry Christmas to you too...I'm wondering how thoughtful you are when it comes to buying gifts
Yes, when a person took time to remember me, I would forever treasure that. All the things that my son gave to me...school projects, his numerous letters of apologies, etc, I treasure them...makes me smile everytime I open that special box and look at those special things he made for me.
Yes, it's useful but the thing is...I got rid of few mugs few days ago as I don't have enough space for all of them in the cupboard...and I could not use everyone of them...I don't think I'll be using this new mug as I have my special mug that I love , it's handle is already broken but I still love drinking my coffee from it...I got rid of some good mug but I'm keeping that one with broken handle
muggor? you? I'm sure you put a lot of thoughts when you give a present...you're just that kind of guy...thoughtful one...am I wrong?
There is a Maximum spend allowed, and usually no more than €10, so that it doesn't put undue pressure on cash-strapped people, as Christmas is already a very expensive time.
It also means you have to go to an extra little effort to buy a suitable gift for the recipient, rather than just throwing money at it.
Or do as Kaybee did on the Forums, everybody had to put up a message or pic for their Secret Santa partner
You don't have anybody to give presents to? well, send it over here I think you know what kind of presents that could make me very happy
If we had the same rule, I'm sure I won't be disappointed and I will get a cheaper present too...but something that is suitable for him, not just any gifts.
Last year I've heard a lot of complains with the same issue...people getting disappointed from the gifts they received...it's not about the gifts, it's the thoughts that count
I joined a group last year and we did that Secret Santa thing, we had 10jds minimum gift limit but we give a little something everyday till the Christmas party...it was fun
Merry Christmas.
Yes, better luck next time...I just hope she didn't notice my disappointment I know the rest of my colleagues were disappointed too...because there was an awful silent when the mug was revealed there was no happy reaction...except " oh, nice mug..."
Good to see you wearing Christmas hat too
Have you received any presents yet?
or the American version in bare a**
I easily get embarrassed but I'm witty, usually laugh it off and simply mumble few f-words
Female picked my name...I wish it's one of the guys...I'm sure they will put more thoughts on buying me a present...definitely not a mug
Yes...how much thought that counts. I can just buy a big pack of cigarettes because he smokes but that's not thoughtful enough...just because I drink coffee, she thinks I'll be ecstatic to receive a 2jd mug if she gave me 6 mugs, then I'll be happier
she's single...not married! I have no idea who puts the mug idea in her head
I never use mugs or glasses in the office kitchen. I bring my own, never let anyone wash it...I always hide my mug and glass in my desk drawer before I go home...
My mug here is a "magic mug" one that shows photos when it's hot...my mug has yazan's photos...really cool
She doesn't know my ex-husband! I think she truly believes that I'm a supermom...let's just leave it at that...you're exasperating
