Ageing together

After looking a recent film by the title 45, I was quite perplexed for what its central message cot point could be. The old ageing actors are superb, CHARLOT Rambling just 70 and the magnificent old wooly of the sixties Tom Caurntey approaching his eighties.A couple with no kids somewhere in winter s England deciding to celebrate their 45 years of marriage because at their 40 the husband had a bypass operation and they missed it.

And suddenly the authorities inform the old man that the dead body of his misress when he was 27 and before meeting his wife, was found intact as at the age of death that she was 28 in a glacier in Swizerland after an accident she had 50 years ago with her loverwho survived but her corpse was never found. She was wearing a marriage ring because the young lovers were telling to the hoteliers that they were married to have permission in a double room. The old man in a shoc by the idea to look at the face of his ex mistress exactly as it was 50 years ago decides to go to recognise the dead body as the authorities asked him thinking he was married to her. He goes even to a touristic agency to book a ticket to the Alpes. And suddenly he changes his mind and stays home to celebrate the 45th anniversary of his marriage with local friends in a public salon where he speaks a touching summary of his married life.End of the film but the message was still missing.

And just today I after a week passed I resolved the riddle or the mystery of his decision. By the thought that even in this age somebody has to look in the present and maybe in the future but not in the past that is lost. His 45 years of marriage is of course a past but a past connected directly with his present time. So, permitted nostalgia is this that can be connected to an actual condition and not something completely and definitely lost, otherwise it becomes an eternal mourn.Even ULISSES nostalgising his beloved Ithaka was planning how to recover it .

And my quest is the following: Is it worthy to choose a woman just for the easy things ( pleasures so common in youth) or somebody has to focus on the difficulties and how to face them together with a woman who can resist or tolerate or encouragen raising the morals this having not much to do with pleasures ?

What's your question again? In a simpler form please? confused grin
I guess it depends on whether you want a lifetime with that partner, or if you just want short-term fun.

Both have a place and a time in our lives.

Most people enjoy one, the latter, and then move on to something deeper.

Some prefer to stay in the ever-changing fun, but superficial ones.
Nikko, take it easy one day at a time and this goes regardless of age in my opinion. Life is too short so strive to be happy and good.wine drink a cup of red wine everyday and it makes you healthy, according to my doctor.wave
Hmmmm.......too difficult the question uh oh

Off I go now. Byeeeeeeeee!

gotta go joy cartwheel gotta go joy cartwheel gotta go
MOLLYBABY All short term funs have a short deadline and so u stay alone once more. So, better to search for a relation that u can keep for a long time, the maximum possible. Find the film and you will understand what that may mean
Nikos , I don't need to see a film to know that, I already know cheers
Niko. I find your question a bit difficult here..?confused

If you want a long term relationship with someone why can't you have both?

Of course there are many things to consider about future plans..where to live..family..health etc..

But...It should be fun as well. And not just for a short time but always.
The honeymoon..The sparks..fire..humour..love is what keeps people together.

Many marriages fall apart because all these ingredients are missing.

Hope I have answered your question ?
My experience tells that easy fun has an easy and short end. So, time to built an everlasting relation under completely different criteria than esthetics, excitement and easy plrasures
Married for 39 years with my ex entailed many a great adventures and fun. You must have misunderstood my point. It takes two to build a long lasting and 88 percent at least with joys and happiness. Aesthetic reasons alone to build that life fails, anyone with common sense know that.

Anyways life is how you make it, mo.
Meant 30 years.
To find the true kind you must relax your mind and only then a true woman you will find.....handshake
Choosing a woman sounds quite calculated. I think most of us we are drawn together by liking / attraction and stay together when we find enduring qualities we admire in the other.

As for the story, you've got me interested, I will look out for the film. I suppose for me it hinges on whether he would have loved and left her anyway, or whether she could instead have been his enduring love, but her death meant he had to find another.
I agree for the 2 senarios but the third is not correct because the accident was not his fault, she was walking in front of him and fell in a gap and disappearances in the snow. And also was the guide as a witness, He was in depression for a year after the accident. He met his actual wife some years after and married her
