Concerned

On some other websites to which I belong there is a pervasive attitude from some people who should know better that superior technology in the hands of the US will ensure that if it becomes necessary to go to war with North Korea (or Iran) that the whole war will be over in just a few weeks.

In 1914 Germany's Kaiser and Austria Hungary's Conrad Graf von Hötzendorf had the same beliefs regarding combat with the the French and the Serbs and Russians. England's Lord of the Admiralty Winston Churchill had the same opinion regarding the Ottoman Empire at Galipoli. Thus began 4 years of war on 4 continents and the resultant suffering and violent death of well over 10 million people.

Historically the US military did not do that well fighting in North Korea. In honesty, until the Inchon landing the US backed side was clearly losing. The US Army was not well prepared for a winter war in mountain terrain.

North Korea has 1.1 million men and women in it's active military.
The United States has 1.3 million men and women in it's active military.

The United States has 865,000 trained reservists.
North Korea has 6.3 million trained reservists.

For 70 years North Korea has been digging tunnels and fortifying bunkers in anticipation of an invasion. Most of their key installations have at least 100 days worth of food, ammunition, fuel and drinking water stored inside.

Any attempt to conquer North Korea with conventional forces would be a lot like invading Japanese held Iwo Jima during but on a vastly larger scale and against an enemy with equivalent weaponry. .

As part of the SALT talks the US destroyed their tactical artillery nuclear devices and back pack nuclear devices (SADM). It is rational to suspect N. Korea by now has quantities of both.

As I stated elsewhere, given a simultaneous launch of 1,000+ US antimissile forces can be expected to stop maybe 10% - 15% of the incoming. The missiles intercepted may be harmless dummy missiles or they may be the real McCoy. What gets through will be random.

Five or fifty large scale nuclear explosions on US soil would be a very bad thing. In WWI maybe 2 - 5 million became homeless, poverty stricken, starving refugees. Disease and crime followed them as they became more and more desperate and without sanitation or medical aid. Looting and riots were common. Large nuclear strikes on America's West coast can rationally be expected to produce at least 20 to 40 million homeless, poverty stricken, starving, irradiated 'displaced Americans' (Since Hurricane Katrina it is politically incorrect to ever call an American a refugee, even when applicable). Crime, disease, looting and death will accompany them. FEMA has no plan written to feed, house, or treat that many people. There exist no plans to recover Guam or Hawaii if there is a large nuclear attack. Good luck to them.

Depending on the size/altitude of the blasts some disruption of the power and communication grid will occur. It shouldn't last more than 2 months in most areas. Likewise delivery of food to your local store may be a few weeks delayed and it is good that we all own water purification systems because the water pumps and filtration systems use electricity. After the fallout settles please remove the top 4" of topsoil before planting vegetables in your Victory garden.

Of course N. Korea will basically vanish in an all out nuclear exchange. US forces will still have to comb through the wreckage least a 3rd party do so and find some nuclear weapons not yet used. Some US deaths from radiation and fanatical armed holdouts should be expected. Fewer than 50,000 probably. At the height of the Cold War both the US and the USSR were making noises about nuclear weapons with dead man switches that required resetting every six months or so. If N. Korea has done that too, I am sure eventually we will learn of it,.

My point? It will bloody, long, and not something anyone sane wants.

But maybe, and hopefully, the youth who are anti guns might pull something out of the hat by creating a new political party that looks after everyone. If that be the case, I'm with them. wine
Keepers, yes I agree and the blinkered attitudes of the American public are a testament to the effectiveness of propaganda via the idiot box which they all fervently believe. Nobody looks at the history or the potential reality, because it doesn't fit with their understanding of it. The fact is, all of this is planned by the money which controls the Governments and that is why The Trumps of this world ignore the truth of any given situation. I don't normally get into topics like this because there's sod all I can do about it so I'll bow out now. wave

"...the States love war." - keeps

Karen Kwiatkowski, Lt. Col. USAF (ret.) explains it quite well...

BTW - The obsession did not end with the W. Bush Administration.
Current developments in the Middle East bear watching. Especially Iran.
Just sayin'.

Not to worry. The 1% are well positioned to survive if they can get in the bunkers quick enough.
Mic, many nations would say "don't make your problem our problem", if the taxpayer wants to build military bases to fill the US unemployment gap, that just doesn't work without creating enemies. The world doesn't need more wars and the US doesnt need more enemies, so it's really time to change the strategy and retrain people to live in the 21st century instead of fearmongering, if not only "you the people" lose out.
You should call it what it is.... it's not the pentagon, or the state dept, it's the taxpayer.
Actually the tax payers would much rather our unemployment issues be resolved by repairing crumbling bridges and widening roads. A factory can turn out steel girders, or tanks. I vote for steel girders to repair bridges with.
I agree Ken. thumbs up
I agree with keeps agreeing with Ken thumbs up

Well talk is cheap, you gotta do something. Join the kids that were shot at in school. crying
These kids are smart Mic, they are better than your congress etc

What makes it worse is there are so many schools crying Mic. That's just a starting place, support those kids, they are going places. cheers
Now I'm off to the tennis. Maybe, I will be right there next year. peace Gotta make the money first and it's very very expensive, and then on to Wimbledon. YAY. wine
Right you are, keeps! cheers

That's precisey Ken's point...
We must use steel to make girders & rebuild crumbling bridges rather than tanks so kids can go places and not be endangered by collapsing bridges. very happy

Kids smarter than Congress.
That's setting the bar mighty low for those kids...sad

That is the true description of fearmongering, nothing more and nothing less. Common sense tells me it won't happen like that because most people fear death, including psychopathic leaders, especially them because their egos are so large. If nations began pushing buttons it would be fatal and everyone knows it, and nobody wants to die. Nah, they will just continue to bore us with their current rhetoric. The fools are those ones who keep preparing for a world war, it's too deadly, so pockets of war will continue to keep the sales of weaponry flowing.
Those egos of Rocket Man & The Don might be the best incentive for them to strike a deal, keeps.

A deal would get 'em a shared Nobel Peace Prize.
They'd both love to have one of those, you betcha!

We have done well in war profiteering indeed, Ken...

I know you're well aware of this; others might benefit from hearing Gen. Butler's message.

@ keeps - Col. Kwiatkowski (see vid posted in comment above roll eyes ) has been favorably compared to Gen. Butler.

That's fine Mic, give them any prize they like to keep them pacified. playball

Call me an optimist Ken, well written reply btw, I'ms suspecting the reason it will be different today is becasue the psychopaths have more money. Now they wouldn't mind death if they can take their money with them, but since they can't and they have to stay alive to enjoy their power, I sense the money might more hold than power. As to the religious bunch, on all sides, they are so blind by dogma they can't see man wrote the text to control the fools. People who see the bible as nothing more than a bunch of aesop's tales have been around forever, it doesnt make the slightest bit of difference, to make it worse from the beginning of time they've been speaking about "the end times" , and they can't even recognise that for what it is, is puzzling to say the least.

I very much doubt your proposition Ken, and if so what can we do about it? If you scare yourself with imaginings you will end up just like them, those who are arrogant enough to believe the world is coming to an end, for if so it will not be "the world" but the demise of human beings, as Mother Nature has the capability of restoration.
I hope you understand my broken english Ken. wave
I believe greed for more money will overpower power itself. comfort
I suspect you might return to say they've always had wealth... not as much as they do today. So in this case we might look upon greed as a blessing to keep the world out of war, but there will be pockets of war for as long as you and I are alive.
I'm back, I need an editor. typing

While America is at odds with the dictators of the world it should be remembered that those dictators are not perturbed as they are aware that Trump is just a bump in the road in the democratic process of voting. So they will be patient hoping that he is out of the WH come next election. The dark little cloud is Putin because he is evil to the core. devil
Putin is NOT evil, keeps scold

And here's PROOF!
@ 2:40 -
The nice blind lady is holding out her hand, hoping Vlad will touch it.
But Vlad is looking the other direction; he passes by the nice blind lady crying

BUT THEN...Vlad looks back and sees her; he goes back and KISSES the nice blind lady kiss
The nice blind lady then swoons smitten

I ask y'all - is that the act of an evil man?
I think NOT scold

He's such a swell fellow smile

miclee ~ Putin is a sock puppet, plain and simple.
Perhaps gg.
But if so, he's a sock puppet with an estimated worth nearly $1/4 TRIllion.
(Roughly 30+ TIMES The Don Trump.)

That probably makes that sock puppet richer than any individual human on Earth.
