The death of Mr. Chen...

When I started working in Boca Raton, my coworkers would frequent a Chinese restaurant named Hunan Palace. Through the years it must have been owned by different people but, it was a mainstay as the winter months had people standing outside waiting to get a seat.
Dingy, crowded, booths, a menu with numbers to order by. Lunch for $6 and a dollar more if you made substitutions.

COVID hit and the business suffered. As people started going back, the place was totally renovated. The huge aquarium in the middle was gone and the booths were taken out and replaced with tables. The floor was changed to ceramic tiles.
It must be hard keeping a good chef as the food was great one month and not-so-great the next. The one good thing about Chinese restaurants is they're never closed on American Holidays. Thanksgiving and Christmas were their 2 best days.

I haven't gone to eat there in more than I can remember and a friend complained to the owner about the variances in quality. That must have been happening too often and the name removed from the front of the place indicated a kiss of death.

Driving by last night, I see a banner across the old signage for a new business of buffet style Indian Cuisine. It's been a while for me to have food in Indian style, so I'll have to pay my respects to the late Mr. Chen and see new foods are being cooked in my neighborhood.

Making something new

I didn't know what to make for dinner tonight, so I grabbed my frying pan, and went looking in my fridge. I found some diced beef, a carrot, which I sliced, and a pack of cocktail sausages. I placed all that in a pan, and then I added some salt, chili flakes and more salt, and gave that a toss. Finally, I gave it a decent amount of ketchup, and then dinner was ready.

For something I thought up on the fly, it was surprisingly good.. I just don't know what to call it, though..

Manzanos are $2 a pound now...

Whenever I go to the Asian market I try to get some bananas from Thailand.
They are short 'finger size' and have a thin skin. Typically, it's best to keep them in plastic and wait for the skin to split to indicate they are ripe.
Last night I see the local Publix grocery has finger bananas from Colombia that look like dwarfed bananas of the variety normally sold here that sell anywhere between 65 cents to 80 cents per pound. When fully ripened, the Manzanos are sweeter than normal bananas but cost prohibitive at $2 a pound.

Who ordered 1 cheeseburger, 1 order of french fries, and a large Pepsi ?

False advertising, that's what it is..

I bought some chicken wings last Saturday, because the packing said "extra spicy"..

I made some for dinner tonight, and I was excited. "Extra spicy wings for dinner? On a WEDNESDAY, of all days? Yes. Please!"

So I shoved them in the oven, setting the time for 35 minutes. The bag said 30 minutes at 180 degrees", but I always give my food a bit extra, just to make sure the food is done. The smell of spicy wings were all over the house! So good! It made me very excited for the food!

I grabbed my oven gloves and took the wings out of the oven. They looked amazing! Lots of sauce on them, which is absolutely key for getting that SPICY kick.. I then took a bite out of one wing, and.. Well.. let's just say I have had more spicy chips than this..

"Mate, what is THIS..?" I asked myself.. "These wings aren't spicy at all.. Pff.."

I don't want my "extra spicy" hot wings to go down easy. I want to sweat. I want to squirm in pain.. I want to feel EVERY. SINGLE. BITE on my tongue..

But no.. They didn't even manage to do that..

Extra spicy? More like extra weak..

‘Tastes Just Like Real Meat’ – Beetleburgers to Hit Mass Production to Help Feed the World.

Eat bugs and live in a pod.

The globalists and freaks in the left-wing media are trying to convince people to eat bugs.

Eating bugs is degrading and that’s why the elitists are pushing them as a “sustainable” source of protein for the peasants.

According to a new study, ‘beetleburgers’ made from mealworms will hit mass production to help feed the world.

“Mixed with sugar, the beetles supposedly taste just like real meat. They could also become alternatives to sausages or chicken nuggets.” – researchers say.

Beetleburgers could soon be helping to feed the world, according to new research. The creepy crawlers’ larvae — better known as mealworms — could act as a meat alternative to alleviate hunger worldwide. The process uses a fraction of the land and water and emits a smaller carbon footprint in comparison of traditional farming.

To make this a reality, French biotech company Ynsect is planning a global network of insect farms, including nurseries and slaughterhouses. A pilot plant has already been been set up at Dole in the Bourgogne-Franche-Comte region of France.

“We are in full control of the chain of production. That gives us strength in terms of quality, security and safety,” says Benjamin Armenjon, general manager of Ynsect, according to a statement from SWNS.

Robot arms and automated conveyor belts transport stacks of red trays in every direction. They are are filled with billions of Tenebrio molitor beetle larvae. The dried critters are more than 50 percent protein and rich in fiber and fats as well.

They can be turned into protein powders, shakes, burgers, cereal bars, and even cooking oils at a fraction of the environmental cost of traditional farming. For every one kilogram of protein, Ynsect uses 98 percent less land and emits 40 times less carbon than beef. It also uses 40 times less water than pork production.

The globalists are pushing for the peasants to eat bugs, weeds and synthetic ‘meat’ because bugs “consume fewer resources than traditional livestock.”

Last year the World Economic Forum promoted the EU’s new plan to use mealworms in food in their bid to reduce meat consumption.

“Livestock around the world is responsible for around 14.5% of all greenhouse gas emissions relating to human activity. The need for land – whether for grazing animals or growing crops to feed animals – is “the single greatest driver of deforestation, with major consequences for biodiversity loss,” the paper says.

Pomegranate...

My dad used to work in a grocery store when I was a kid and sometimes bring home Pomegranates. I have no idea how much they cost then, but now they are nearly $3 each now, unless you shop at Walmart where you can get them for less than $1 each. They probably had to reduce the price as no one was buying them.

So... I bought some and now I remember why I haven't had any for so many years. It's all about the amount of work to get those freaking little seeds out!

I did check out a video on the best way to do it as there are many different methods.
What I did find strange is they eat the seeds, where I sorta chew on them then suck the juice then spit out the seeds. Yeah, the flavor is tart.
