Carillon Historical Park...

On Friday, I got to visit the Carillon Historical Park, with some of the oldest buildings in the Dayton area. There were a few hundred displays of things & photos of the made here. NCR cash registers, DELCO automotive parts, Huffy bicycles, Frigidaire refrigerators for example. The Charles Kettering display had a moving mannequin describing some of his inventions and experiences.
The main attraction was the Wright Brothers National Museum where they had recreations of the bicycle store and workshop where they started propeller design and testing models that eventually lead to the building of their aircraft.
A small auditorium was playing movies with actual film footage of their experimental aircraft. I had no idea of the number of failures they experienced getting a working airplane and how they went to Europe to demonstrate it's flight and dispel the rumors as other inventors were very close in their attempts of manned flight.

Batteries...

Modern life would be very difficult without the use of batteries. Over the years battery technology had changed greatly with more power and less weight. Consider how hearing aid technology fueled smaller devices, iPhone ear buds go for hours on a single charge.
Probably the least improvement is the automotive standard 'wet-cell' car battery. Heavy, but supplied lots of high current.
Lithium-Ion and lithium-polymer batteries appear to be everywhere powering all types of electronic devices... especially cellphones.
The problem is they are volatile if mishandled. Overcharging a Lithium battery can cause an explosion with the battery emitting toxic fumes. A while back I read a story about a girl who shipped her phone between the mattress and pillow. This insulated the heat dissipation while charging. She was lucky it only smoked the phone and pillow. Other devices actually explode.
I order lots of batteries and the packages have warning labels on the box.
Airlines have restrictions for traveling with batteries. New generation cellphones are sealed, so you cannot tamper with the battery, but proper charging care is essential.

NOMOPHOBIA

I think that many people have this phobia without even realizing it.

Do you suffer from NOMOPHOBIA?

The term NOMOPHOBIA or NO MObile PHone PhoBIA is used to describe a psychological condition when people have a fear of being detached from mobile phone connectivity. The term NOMOPHOBIA is constructed on definitions described in the DSM-IV, it has been labelled as a “phobia for a particular/specific things”.

I doubt very much if I could fire on all cylinders without my phone.uh oh

Your Opinion

Would it not be beneficial to all parties, Connecting Singles and Members, if Connecting Singles would incorporate an app similar to Zello to replace the Chatroom?

Would it not help to make it so much easier discerning between a scammer and a true potential match?

Hope this idea/suggestion does not cause too much discord among the scammers who have free reign. laugh

Relax its weekend.

XXXXX is a free walkie-talkie app for smartphones, tablets, laptops and desktop computers. The app requires an Internet connection to work properly, whether it’s through Wi-Fi or a mobile data network. Unlike the standard calls you can make on the device of your choice, Zello connects you to fellow users and radio channels where large groups can talk regardless of distance.

Take note: I am not promoting any app or website.

Life before the Internet

This is for young people who weren't around when there was no such thing as online anything. The personal computer wasn't even invented yet. Oh, there were computers, but you needed a forklift to move them and a college degree to be allowed near one. There was no Google or any other search engine. If you needed to research anything you looked it up in an encyclopedia, or went to the library for a book on the subject. libraries were very popular, everybody had a library card.

If you wanted to buy something from a distant company, you called them on the phone at a number you got from an ad in a magazine or newspaper or on TV. Maybe they would send the item COD or you had to mail them a check before they shipped the item.
There were no dating sites. If you wanted to meet somebody, you either went to a bar, cruised around looking for someone waiting for a bus and offering a ride or a friend introduced you to a sibling or a friend. There were also "Lonely Hearts clubs" you could join. It was a painstaking process but at least you weren't spinning your wheels on someone from a different hemisphere or getting fleeced by scammers from Nigeria or Ghana.
There was no email. If you wanted to write to someone, you either wrote or typed a letter, put it in an envelope, put a stamp on it and brought it to the post office to mail it. If it was going very far away you could send it Airmail for extra postage or it would be transported by train or steamship if it was going across the ocean. It could take a week or longer for a letter to go cross country by regular mail.

There were no online games. If you felt like playing a card game you got out the deck of cards and played with another person(s) or played solitaire. Same with any other kind of game. Or you could go to a bar where they may have had a console with a game called PONG which was just bouncing a ball back & forth on a TV screen with a paddle you controlled with a knob.

YouTube overload...

Friday... 6pm and I'm unable to get any YouTube videos to play.
Checking my bandwidth connection and 3 sites confirmed I'm getting downloads greater than 50mbps.
C'mon YouTube, I've got some new helicopter gear and need to see a few setup tutorials.
It's dinner time... people get off the internet!

very mad
