BadlyDrawn

All Wrong

Did you ever start doing something when you suddenly realize that you've completely messed up? Yeah, me either.... well until just now.

So I'm drawing a gymnast and not thinking at all apparently. Then it occurs to me just how wrong the body is for a gymnast. See if you don't agree

Could you imagine that girl doing gravity-defying flips and such? It's ridiculous, right? What the hell made me draw a gymnast with no arms and no feet?

MINI... Cooper that is

Before I had a drivers license, I fell in love with the Mini. Made in England by various manufacturers in the 1960's, there were several different styles and models. I recall names like Austin Mini, Morris Mini and the Mini Cooper S.

Weekend activities in Miami always had something interesting and when a parent volunteered to drive kids to see car races... there were more kids than room in the car and usually the older kids got first choice to go. On my first trip to see a race, they had the mini-class and a handful of Mini Coopers were on the track. Small, low and fast. If you have seen any British spy movies, a mini was usually the getaway car of choice!

I wanted a Mimi and every weekend I'd scan the Sunday newspaper looking for a used one. Typically, they were already sold before I could get there to make an offer.

One problem with Mini's were emission controls... they didn't have any!
Imported to America prior to regulations, the older cars were exempt from having add-on devices to pass the pollution standards of the newer vehicles. As far as I know, no new Minis were coming to America. If you had the money and connections, you could import a used one under the 'grey market' and get around some of those regulations.

As a touring musician, I was 'star-struck' when I traveled to Canada and saw Minis everywhere. By then, emission control standards were getting difficult so It wasn't practical to bring one to America. Life changed for me and I purchased a Honda. :-(

One of the amazing things about Minis is their engineering. Up until that time, car engines were inline... the cylinders were arranged front-to-back. When you revved the motor, the car often shook sideways from the torque. The Mini engine was transversely mounted (as in sideways) so the torque pulled forward and the side tilting was eliminated.

Mini production halted more than a generation ago and only in the last decade did BMW bring a redesigned Mini to market. While it shares the name and some visuals, we all know it's not the same car.

My car is in the repair shop this week and the rental company offered me a Mini. It's the Countryman, a longer hatchback model. While I've only put 20 miles on the car Wednesday, I've got 3 outside appointments today and expect to have the car for the weekend.

What do I think so far?
Solid, quiet interior, lots of gadgets. All wheel drive so I wasn't able to screech tires on the takeoff!

laugh

My immediate dislike are the small rearview mirrors. Fashion over function. I consider them a safety liability as the view is limited. Also, the short doors make getting in and out a time consuming squeeze.

Horn OK Please

Horn OK please' is a phrase commonly painted on commercial vehicles like trucks, buses or local taxis in India.

The purpose of the phrase is to alert a driver of a vehicle approaching from behind to sound their horn in case they wish to overtakeThe origin of this phrase is unknown. Also, there is no official significance with respect to Indian traffic regulations. No rules in India mandate or suggest the use of such a "slogan" on a vehicle. Still many vehicles are decorated with the phrase Horn OK please.

In the early days, most of the trucks in India were manufactured by the TATA Group. When new trucks were rolled out of the factory, they were subjected to tests, and the trucks that passed the tests had 'OK TATA' stamped in the rear tailgate, with 'TATA' written below 'OK'. Owing to the huge amount of traffic, many truck drivers had 'Horn Please' painted on the tailgate, with the two words on either side of 'OK'. This was visually read as 'Horn OK Please'.

Though this may be the most likely origin, there are plenty of theories for the “Horn Ok Please” being into existence. One such theory has its roots in the Second World War where trucks were often run on petrol when there was a shortage of diesel. Petrol, being highly unstable in nature, would cause the trucks to explode at the slightest accident. Hence a warning would be painted on the back saying “Horn Please, On Petrol”. Gradually this became a norm and is still seen on most trucks even today.

Another possible explanation is that during the blackout on lights during the Second World War, if a car had to overtake a lorry in the night, it had to honk. For this purpose, there used to be a red light under the truck which the truck driver would switch on to signal that it was OK to overtake. It was the OK in the middle that would light up.

Yet another explanation (and probably one bearing some truth behind it) is that the OK is separate from the Horn Please. The OK is kept there in big, bold letters, to allow the drivers from behind to realise that they were OK and alive, thus preventing them from rash behaviour; in addition, the fact that they are able to read the OK is indicative that they are keeping an appropriate braking distance.

Another theory is that, the original words were Horn OTK (overtake) please. And since many times the T would merge into the paneling of the truck it got mistaken for OK.From Wikipedia, the free encyclopediacheers

My cat purrs and climbs aboard. I ask him “do you like the rustic atmosphere?”

My electric was disconnected 3 days ago for nonpayment lol-not. I’m wearing a down coat, buried under two big dogs and a cat, body heat. I feel like a pioneer. Like camping in s house. I sure wish warm weather would come.

My latest lesson, men are expensive and more costly to get rid of. I’m sure the same can be said for female leaches.

Today was day 1 of my store’s liquidation. We are a carcass, to be picked clean. I can’t decide if I want to stay to the bitter end and collect unemployment or abandon ship. Those who have, have lost friends. I don’t want to do that.

I had a breakdown but now I’m running on anger adrenaline. I will not give up. Not today, anyway.

This is life. The amazing thing is that I have the will to live. This confounds me.

7 more days until I have heat and light, provided my paycheck will cover it. At this time, I must determine what is most important, heat, water or light.

Not complaining, I did it to myself thinking I could support 2 adults, 1 not working. That other adult is out of the picture so, I am already in a better place.

Phone battery is low. See you later.

Windshield versus a windscreen...

Before I could (legally) drive a car I was in love with the Austin Mini Cooper. My brother and I went to Speedway Park to see some races. Typically they were American muscle cars, but one race was for the mini series. I was blown-away by their high performance.
I ordered a photo book with specifications of makes and models of the minicar series as they had a few manufacturers and lots of different body style.

That's when I learned names of parts to cars were very different in the United Kingdom than in the United States. First off, tires are tyres, hood is bonnet, trunk is boot and the think that confused me the most is the front glass.
In America, it's called a windshield. In Europe, it's a windscreen.

We are talking about wind... I have screens on the windows in my house. They are there to allow air to pass and screen out bugs and often dust or leaves when it's really windy.

My boss has a secretary who answers the phone calls and screens ones of people he's not interested in talking to. Screen... some calls can pass through.

Roman soldiers had wooden shields that were used to protect themselves from the swords of their enemies in combat. Shield... block the attack.

By definition, a windshield is designed to block the wind. That would mean a windscreen is designed to allow some wind to pass.
Are you kidding me??

Something on my mind

I spend a lot of time daydreaming. I can watch a movie but sometimes real life is so beautiful that replaying certain events is much better and happier. After all, the memories are real and mine.

One might argue with me that I have fallen in love. In a sense, perhaps I have. But, I am very aware that I am not his object of such daydreams.

This tennis playing relationship seems to try to develop into something of more substance. My solution is to not respond to his texts as normal. Typically I would jump to attention with minimal time to elapse before my response. I lack self control but I am very mindful of this delicate balance.

My body likes his body and my mind likes his mind. My heart likes him too. Life brings us such wonderful things if we are good to not abuse them.

The struggles of modern man

So, with my rash decision to quit the last job and the interim of 2 month’s lack of wages, i rely on the smart phone. No wifi for 2 weeks. Thats no ASMR for sleep along with movies til i drop. Days away from no electricity or gas makes this existance close to the pioneers of yore. On the upside, the management have high hopes of my ability and i believe a sale is near. Just over there. Can you see it? I guess im a risk taker. An adrenaline junky in the finencial sense. Learning lots and having fun. Jeez, when was the last time i had that? Im getting along good with the established sales troop and have acquired a degree of respect. Since we’re all sharks, that’s a positive. Im 54 but a short skirt and long blonde hair does go a long way. Lol. What else have i got to lose? Not much. I’m pretty sure i’ll have my first sale tomorrow. 99 more and i’ll earn a ring. Should i choise white or yellow gold? You pick!

i'm good for incense

i'm really enjoying the variety in incense. trying new things is something i love to do. my favorite are white sage and opium but i will try the musk later today.

i like a spicy, wood, leather type scent. the earthiness is settling to me. on occasion, when it's hot, i like a green, citrus or floral scent.

it's cooling off so i'll be burning the cozy spices for the next 6-7 months.
