I have been on the site 6/7 months now and I would just like to ask people in the EU Forums are the happy with the EU forums ?

From my experience no new people actually seem to join in.....

I have posted occassionally and a lot of the posts seem to be ignored...............which is no biggie really for me.........I could care less truthfully........

But do people feel afraid to join in because it seems to be the same few people.........confused

Do the regulars want more people to join in......confused

Jus wondering........

Hi Rose........wave

Thanks for your reply...........I think the Intl Forums can be more stimulating at times...........for me anyway, but I would have thought more people would contribute to the EU Forums...

I think in a lot of ways we Europeans have a lot more in common.

As regards being more serious, I take your point but am not sure I would necessarily agree............maybe its the Threads that are put up......laugh ...........I do know in the IE forums there is a lot of banter and jokes and word games to keep people amused.........

Well, I'm not European but I do make my way here now and again, mostly to say hello or reply in threads where I know the author from the Int'l forums. I do read a lot of them however.
I do see a lot of the same people here, but to me it's not unlike to international ones-much of the same people there as well.

I had a bit of a "row" with someone here on my first foray here. Quite unintentional and the person was very nasty to me--however, he misread something I wrote and felt I was being nasty to Europeans. So it was not without trepidation that I ventured back here. I do love to converse with those of different opinions or mindset as mine and so enjoy reading how people live their daily lives elsewhere. I have traveled (literally) to Europe several times and felt I could move there easily and be "home". Ireland is on my agenda for certain as it's me ancient homeland! Just haven't made it yet. eu

And I agree...........so many cultures here to share yet its always the same people IMO and I really was just wondering what stops people posting...........This is my first thread here I think

I will prob be in Florida before you make it here....

Well I'm about 3 weeks new in these forums....but I just butt in cause I'm a Yank and we have no manners. I flail often with Brit humor and tend to be too earnest for them, but I cowgirl up just the same cowboy blah blah... because I'm nosey and have a big mouth blushing.

I have found that on other forums in dating sites, that only a very small minority of the whole site posts their thoughts. Some people just aren't comfortable writers or want to get to know others in a friendly way... guess they just wanna date dunno. I like forums and have made some good friends that way over the years handshake... altho we are scatter hither and yon, you find some people who 'get' you in the strangest places and that's fun!

So my advice is.... just do it! wine.... after all what can they do, come and throw eggs at your windows? tongue

You'll be a welcome visitor here Vinny. Florida is a fun place for tourists but so many don't get to see the "real" Florida and I often take my friends down the road less traveled. When I go to EU I don't go on "tours" (once I did), but get out and venture on my own or with one other person. I like to really feel what life is like elsewhere. Will be taking myself to visit family and friends in North Carolina mountains and Georgia in 2 weeks. That's usually a visit of convenience and guilt.
There are many places I want to go and I'm in dire need of a holiday now.

I'm like you though in the thoughts on the forums. But, it's much like any community: "friends" find one another, support one another and bash others who may offer dissent-or plain old devil's advocate views! It's just more of a world-wide community to me. teddybear

V Good............and as I say I could honestly care less whether my posts are responded to...........I love forums too and it is a great way of meeting people and finding out how others view life.......

I think its peoples diff perceptions and when you look at the EU forums there really are only a few posters who keep it going......I was hoping for people who maybe didnt have your confidence to help them contribute.....

Hi Vinny

We are quite ptotective of our EU forums. The regulars. Not often we have newbies in here, maybe because it reads out that we many of us have met and that we know each other, I don't know.

Some days, I come here to just be in the EU, the internationals are busier, but I get frustrated in there, it is hard to have a debate sometimes, as it ends up in a spat. Here we do not have that.

I have lasted longer here because of the people n the EU forums, that I know and enjoy interacting with them. Plus, I can be more of who I am here, whereas over there, I have to be more assertive to get my point across.

The turnover is not so high here, because people do go, then they come back.

But the EU is the best forum on CS, the people in here are close, have respect for each other and we have fun, the contributors are wonderful and it is like a welcoming fire in the winter when times are troubled...

Good question Vinny.

I agree and maybe you can be the magic man who fills me in on the UK psyche.... like why do they get all nervous laughter and NEED to throw in a joke if people are on a 'serious' thread confused?
And what is with this stiff upper lip stuff and stoicism.... not with the women, but Brit men really seem to have a hard time with their touchy feely side dunno?

Are Irishmen different? Because they sure like to make jokes about the Irish sad flower...which I find tacky and insular. I do know that the Irish and Italians seem to have made some connections.... is that just because of religion...were we raised with the same bucket of Catholic guilt doh? Excuse me that was probably a presumption.... you could be Protestant

Just curious minds want to know....as long as you're here angel

Hi Sommer.............hope your well......

I completely understand why you would feel like that about the EU forums...........it can be like a warm and welcoming place for the regulars...........

Unfortunately if one is not a regular it can have the opp effect.

I like to think I'm me no matter which forum I debate in.......I do understand one can be more open with friends though.....

Would you...........as a regular like people to join in ?

It may upset the feelgood factor somewhat ?

tongue .........laugh

Well not being from the UK I would not know.......

As regards the Irish we do like to laugh at ourselves and I think a lot of Celtic nations have a great sense of Humour.......I personally love the British sense of humour though....

I personally dont think there is any more connection between Italy and Ireland than we might have with other countries like Spain or France.........There is the religion commanality I suppose but I dont see it.......confused

From my experience if you were to compare say Italians to Spanish which have both a historical common dominant religion, I would enjoy Italian company more because of their sense of humour but I stress its only from my experience.

laugh And I was definitely raised with Catholic Guilt......

Hi you.

I agree that it could have a debilitating effect on onlookers, but then that is their problem not ours. To be blunt, when I joined here, first, I never posted for months, but I read, not because I was afraid, but because I know what a community is like, sometimes they can be wary and sniff around you until they know you are 'safe' That was my problem and mine alone, not the members here. When I did post, I was welcomed warmly.

I would love for more people to be here, somedays it is quiet, it will be in the summer, winter is busier, because we are home more. But when people like you, come and ask the question, it makes me sit up and realise that people do feel like this.

We have members from the other side lately and they love it and it does help when people know them, even if only one.

Hard to upset a feelgood factor, we would not allow that to happen, here. It is a warm welcoming place where we embrace all and all are embraced.

I do not post in the UK or Irish ones, I read occasionally, but here is my home, the International's are a place where I go to remind myself that I need to come back here. grin

Other regulars will give a different view, but it is interesting.

In response to: I personally dont think there is any more connection between Italy and Ireland than we might have with other countries like Spain or France.........There is the religion commanality I suppose but I dont see it.......

Maybe that's something you see more in the states than in your real time in Ireland, they were maybe first, second generations there.... probably met at church wink.

So the Irish and the Brits have a different sense of humor... that's interesting. But I don't doubt it, my favorite toast is Irish:

May those that love us, love us.
And those that don’t love us,
May God turn their hearts.
And if he doesn’t turn their hearts,
May he turn their ankles,
So we’ll know them by their limping.

laugh.... if it were only true.

Never been to Spain, though I thought that they would be a lot like the Italians, but people are changing everywhere. Once you could tell who everyones culture was right away when they got off a tour bus....and now we've all blended together in appearances on the outside... modern life. And Italy has changed so much in 25 years, that it amazes me sometimes. But that applies to most of the planet.....we're evolving so fast now, it can make your head spin. laugh

I post to all forums...but i needed time to start posting on forums at all. Most of the people dont bother posting...they think its stupid, silly ..un real space for hanging and have converstation. My friends for example think its waiste of time so they just search guys profiles and send mails or flowers.I think that people that post on forums are interested in finding friends, meeting new people not only date or soulmate.
