I have known some people whose only since of self worth comes from their profession. they work long and hard, have very few interests outside their jobs. they retire, looking foreward to a new life and are absolutley misarable becuse they dont know what to do with all of that time. these people are always going to ask you what you do for a living. that would define who you are to them. then your looks. It is kinda superficial stuff. if you were a hit man or an ax murder it might be nice to know. But what the hell, as long as we had fun while I was in one piece, who cares. bruce
If I was an ax murderer I wouldn’t tell that in a chat to the first stranger passing by.
And yes, I’ve met people, usually it’s men, who have their profession as their identity. But that’s not the case for me, and therefore I’m reluctant to let someone I don’t know to identify me by my profession, or income related to it. I’m a woman and a mother first and foremost, then I’m a daughter and a friend. My job comes somewhere after that. Yes, it’s important for me, I have to eat and to pay my rent. But it doesn’t mean that my job substitutes my personality. It’s me who makes the place, not the other way round.

So I’m dying with curiosity: why do people want to know that? Are they employers looking for staff? Are they eager to offer a better opportunity straight away? Trying to figure out whether I’d be able to pay my meal in case they’d ask me out?..
