I meant to add that I know that as we speak, there are major global telemedicine projects going on in the University of Naples, and elsewhere in the world, including in Melbourne, Australia. I knew a quantum physicist who is very much involved with this work. to address this whole area of medical services in regional areas, and areas that are difficult to access/medical services are not readily available due to isolation. There are huge changes afoot.

Sommerauer71: My father retired at 52, which I thought was too young, but I now look at him and think, yes I am doing the right thing.

My income and my work is set for the next five years and I can plan and do something while I am still young enough to enjoy it.

I totally agree with you Sommer. Of-course you are doing the right thing. Enjoy life in balanced fashion while you have the energy and the health to do so. It can be gone in the blink of an eye.

I have worked hard, and while not wealthy, have invested well in some real estate. I now have options which I didn't have 3.5 years ago. I have a friend/colleague who turns 71 later this year. She HAS to keep working, though she enjoys it and while being self-employed, there is the flexibility, nevertheless, she has no choice but to keep working. I have told her several times that I would shoot myself if I were in her position. She does not take offence as she knows exactly what I mean.

So, yes, Sommer, let's celebrate the pending purchase of the new EU CS headquarters!

You do realise, Lago, that when I buy a house, it will be a shed.

And I will bore you all senseless with the renovations.

There was a hut for sale when I was Le Touquet, it was dirt cheap. But it would have made a super little house for me in my old age.

L'hut we called it, the kids were horrified, they really thought I had lost my mind. They thought I was going to end up with chickens and old and wrinkly living in L'hut.

hi summer i have thought about buying a house in Italy too ..my advice would be that before taking any decision ...i would rent a place in the locality and spend some time there ..get a feel for the place and see how you would feel living part of your year there.......

voyager007: well, I truly wish you the best but you have to consider the facilities and services availability too

you see, either we like it or not, with age health issues will arise and accessibility would be essential, I did not wanted to say that out loud but I truly care for you to make that included in your decision, I am doing it, even though that I don't like the results but what else can I do,,

Tuscany??? too much inland sister

I like coastal locations especially west side, where I can see the sun taking a dip into the sea,

Hi Voyager!

You have very good points there. I have an 82-year-old neighbour who had a house in Calpe, Spain, but has come back to Brussels for those same issues you mentioned.

I have also seen the film, "Under the Tuscan Sun", Sommer. Beautiful place, rustique .. I think it would be lovely if you're intending to make it a second home. I've never been there, though.. just an impression I got from the film. I have colleagues at work who've been there on vacation. They say the local wine is also good.

venere08: Hello voyager,

I was with my cousins in Tuscany last Sept, and Patrizia works as a nurse in ER at the nearby hospital in a town near Florence. They lack for nothing, and told me that in Italy whether you are a citizen or foreigner, you have access to the same quality medical service. In the small town where I was born further south, I was stunned to know they have a 24hr medical service, plus ambulance at all times. I was impressed.

As an expat now with dual citizenship, I am well covered, and I have the top level travel insurance when I am over there, as any would. As Sommer has said she does not intend to live there year round, she would be well covered in the event of any health issues.

But you do raise important points on the need for people to take good care in any such decision making.

thumbs up

This is really good to know Venere
Thank you for the info handshake

well, in that case I advise you to plan for moving to Italy ASAP
super I know I am planning to do that, regardless of some difficulties that I will overcome sooner or later but truly Italy is the best place IMHO.

well sister, I am an IT consultant specialized in Healthcare. I have conducted several medical related IT projects including telemedicine. We have in Saudi several hospitals with Operation Theater that are directly linked to hospitals in USA.

Moreover, I have participated in paperless Hospital projects implementation with full electronic medical record. All Biomedical equipments are electronically liked to the HIS and can be viewed easily by the physician from anywhere.

However, if something happened at home, they cannot email a physician to home tongue also, such facilities are available at well budgeted hospitals which they exist mainly at major cities.

Anyway, my main concern is the availability to reach a descent and fairly trained physician with transportation capability to reach much equipped and staffed hospital. That is all.

but then again thanks for the info

Hi there Amaryllis

I agree with you that Tuscany is a beautiful place but it is inland and no sea front. I like coastal places and if there is small hills around, it would be a plus. applause

By the way, I believe that life and death is at the hands of Allah (God), I just like to go in a decent way with less pain as passable dunno

I wish you and everybody the best health hug

It all sounds very exciting, voyager, given the hands-on involvement you have in the IT side of telemedicine. My friend was involved from the quantum physics side. I know absolutely nothing about the issues involved other than information from people like him and yourself. I suppose the barriers are being addressed, and that is the main reason for telemedicine, to reach the currently unreachable.
cheers

Well, I don't know that Italy may necessarily be the 'best place'. It is good place for me, as I was born there and I feel at home there, strangely enough, despite the obvious level of awkwardness from having resided elsewhere for the past 50 odd years. I may do just that, though, maybe next year for about 6mths at least. Time will tell.

There is an air of mystery about you, voyager.

May I ask, where are you from originally? Just curious, given your strong affinity with Italy.

Shouldn't there be a poll or competition of sort of which man you are to bring with you to be in charge of this whole project?

So, let me tell you about my kind of town in Italy. it is not that far away from Sardinia,, It is called Portofino, at the north west coast of Italy,

I agree with you 100% and I've been there many times and also to nearby Sta. Margherita. It's very expensive though, practically millionaire's row in places.

cool please stand on the line cool naaaah am just kidding tongue

well my dear, I am descendant of those who raged war against Venezia in the 15th century. Those who were driven by the ambition to win a land but they lost their hearts. With pleasure, they have fallen captive to the love of such beauty that still flows within the channels of Venezia. Yet time has passed, still love has last and I can feel that the water of Venezia channels is flowing through my veins. This echo of my heart beat is more like the sound of the Gondoliere sailing with his Gondola along my blood stream. love

By the way Venezia has its own name in Arabic which is Bondoqeeah

Actually, I am 110% Saudi Arabian head banger , born between the mountains and trees of the south west of the Arabian Peninsula (Saudi Arabia) and raised among the oasis and sand dunes of the middle. dancing

Yet, I was captured by this European Peninsula which holds the mystery of the Mediterranean by merging both sides of two different worlds; Europe and Middle East. You can almost see it with your eyes going through the south of Italy as if you are in the Middle East (especially Sicilia LOL grin ) and the north that is truly European (but you have to work on it believe it LOL grin ).

professor Truly (with NO LOL) Italy has unique culture and landscape where people and nature are truly an inspiration. This is my personal thoughts with no undermining the rest of the world especially the rest of Europe. I have traveled all over most of the world especially Europe and my style of traveling is a backbag and road ride. No planes, I like to see where I was and where I am going and the places that I am passing by, especially the people around.

Thank you for asking

peace

Voyager, would you kindly cut out the flowery travelogues....Venera baby is probably swooning at your boyish good looks and your deftly stylish pen, in fact she's probably this moment reclining in a faint on her victorian divan, her bodice ripped open for breath, fanning herself furiously with her freshly-printed online air-ticket...to Saudi Arabia!!!!...Screw the italians, she's now on her way to see YOU!!!!....
