Sommerauer71: Well guiri, have you never told a fib in your life? So, regardless of what else there may be in the relationship, you would chuck it all away because she lied about her age?

I see so many profiles that state that they are looking for people aged 18-99. Now somehow, I don't think that is the case.

Then there is FM, our lovely FM, who states he is 72 and has been reducing his age by a year each day, which we have made a joke of. Yet I would trust him. If only from what I have seen him writing on here... and the personal emails I have had from him, I would not treat him as a dishonest person because he had not posted his age.

How do you know some people are lying? I know some people have lied about other people, I don't claim to be honest, honest people do not go around saying they are honest, they just are.

The woman could have made a typing error, hardly the crime of the century lying about some numbers, how many times do we hear about age does not matter?

Lies and deceit are major deals when in relationships, I agree and I would not entertain anything, but I don't go off a few words in a profile.

Hmmm... Sommer... where could anybody find somebody else like you?hug

72 sounds good. Looks like a great number. I like 72. I'll see how it works on mine..grin

And to you, Perfectdream:

very interesting response .. for you it's okay that somebody lies about their age by 7 years .. that's fine, Sommer .. we are all different.

How do I know? .. Like I say, it isn't so clever ..

C'mon, guiri.. do you think that everything that's indicated in everybody's profile is true?

And why is Perfectdream asking? It's not whether it is acceptable to other people that matters, but it should be if it is acceptable to HIM. What he truly feels about the other person.

I have met a few guys who were supposed to be younger than I am, and I've chosen to meet with them not because of their age. Almost all of them look older than their actual age. I did not ask if they lied about their age. I just didn't feel that special feeling, that's all. But if I did, it would not have mattered if he lied or not.

There were a couple of guys I corresponded who kept on saying they look much younger, so everybody tells them they say, but when I met them in person, they were not.

I met one who was supposed to be 5 years older than I am (I was excited because I would really prefer one older), then he looked already 85 years old and was trembling all over all the time. I was afraid he gonna die on me right there on the spot!

So I think it does not really matter if one lied about his/her age or not. It's how they actually look when you meet them that matters. And eventually how you click together. For me, in any case..

Now that I think about it, it's making me wonder if I am being drastic in not responding to men below 45..hmmm

Dear Stevvy, what I really had in mind was someone max 6 years older, so in fact considering that I'm close to my birthday we just MIGHT be able to squeeze that one in... However as I'm getting tired of second guessing whether men are lying or not (you do wonder when someone says they are very young but the pictures tell another story, if nothing else it's confusing) I've resorted to following the Chinese horoscope. According to which three years my senior would be perfect! Can you go and change the constellation of your stars somehow... grin

Actually it's funny but I am really surprised that so many are defending liars here, can't believe this thread got to be this long. I like your simple statement that "it's not so clever". Spot on.

you shouldn't feel targeted .. it wasn't my intention .. I am speaking about people who flagrantly use false profiles .. I can only imagine to deceive people .. not your case at all .. and yes .. I too find it strange that people are so ready to defend liars.

If I really believed the site was full of people with false profiles, I would leave as I wouldn't see any real reason to stay .. I don't think that is the case ...but there some in use everyday.

Dear guiri,

'I, Sommer, think it is okay that some person lies about their age'

Guiri, have I posted that statement? Or anything along the lines of that? Where I said it is okay?

No, I said that it is not a crime and that people have put on their profiles not their true age, and that it is not a big deal to me. I used FM as an example, because I know his age is not true.

You have picked up one point, changed the words to suit your own views that you disagree with.

I have not said that your views are wrong, I have not argued with you, I asked you a question and if you feel that a person lying about their age is so bad, then of course I would not say thst you are wrong.

As for multiple profiles? Again, I have no idea who you are talking about and frankly I do not care. If they gain great fum from having that then so be it, the moderators will sort it out.

And I never suggested you did need my approval, you stated that I thought something when I did not. You often post that your words are mistakenly understood, which can often happen in a place. Good lord guiri, I have a discussion with you about a topic and you resort to sarcastic comments.

Happy multiple profile hunting.

I think it's pretty obvious that you said there was nothing wrong with it .. I said I disagree with you .. adding we are different .. who is mistaken? don't bother to answer .. it's a rhetorical question ..

anyone who is interested in your views could always read what you posted .. I can't understand why you are feeling so uneasy .. dunno

as for 'the mods can sort it out' .. you've cleared that up for me ..laugh

Yes, guiri, then can read my views, they can also read where I did not write that it is okay to lie.

Oh, and I am not uneasy at all.

And you have never posted a sarcastic comment? Would that be alongside never lying? A question which you evaded. Still that is your right to choose not to answer.

It is not your right however, to post words that I did not write. Which to my mind is a bit of a fib.

perfectdream2005: Here is my story - I found a very interesting woman here in CS, a lot of common interests etc , but later I accidently found out that in real life she is not 38 years old as it was said in her profile, but some 7 years older.
What would be your reaction in such a situation? Is this acceptable?

Unacceptable. What's the point?confused
If a person lies about his age, this means he feels unconfortable in his own skin and tries to conceal things which actually can not be concealed for long.
