That I'm dropping out of school?

I'm no longer sure that I want to be a teacher. I don't really know what else I would want to do. I'm not doing so well at all. I feel like I'm wasting time, money, and energy by being in school right now. I have a part-time job that could easily become a full-time job. I don't have the energy to go to school and work at the same time, and right now I can't afford to pick school. I've got credit card bills to pay, that my parents can't afford to pay off for me. I plan on going back to school, but I need some time to think, and figure out what I want to do with my life.

Got any advice? (Other than "don't drop out")

You have been going to school for three quarters of your life... you are burnt out. Take some time off to think and let your brain rest. I know because I went through the same thing. Went back to school about 4 years later... it was cool, but I didn't like it anymore. At my age, I went back again about four years ago and became a certified EMT (emergency medical tech/ambulance). Not certified anymore because I'm a mailman... way better pay, and it was too much trying to do both. But my point is that school is always there, never too late to learn something new, or continue your education. professor

summer is here that should help, first cut up your credit cards that seems to be a big problem you have you didn't say what year you were in school, if you have to extend your schooling by taking less hrs and that way you can work more hrs, by then you may have an idea what you want to do, even if you drop out later the more school time looks good on a resume

Ask their advice explaining the situation from your point of view.

Come up with an outline of a plan about work, money, housing and when you plan to go back to college.

If you really do not want to be a teacher then you should leave, why waste anymore of your time if you do not plan to use it after. Since you do not know what you want it is better to take a break to decide what you want to do.

Sounds like you've already decided what you're gonna do......
Just remember , the longer you wait, the less likely you'll ever go back to school . You'll be more dependent on others to get the things you want out of life if you don't get an education and have a career . Take a short break and go right back at it - that's my advice ........professor

Talk to your parents. Lay it all out to them - especially if you are questioning whether this is the career for you. No point in pursuing it if you won't be happy doing it or have no interest in it. However, I would suggest you don't quit school, it is too hard to make yourself go back later.

I've done the night school thing myself and it's no piece of cake either - regardless of what kind of job you have.

There may not be a good way of telling them - so just spit it out.

Simple. Tell them that you want to go into ADVERTIZING! Then, tell them that you want to get started in your new field by making You Tube movies. Then, tell them that you plan to marry a director named Breckenridge and if they don't like it they can hang themselves like David Carradine.

Oh, that reminds me, I need to go make some puppets for my You Tube videos! I'll need a Saudi prince, a damsel in distress and a butt ugly magician. Then a director will be sure to notice me and I'll be snapped right up into advertising. laugh devil

Honesty is the highest expression of integrity. Remember that when you talk to your parents, and don't react to whatever emotions arise from the conversation....

oh yeah....

And Don't Drop Out (You'll always regret it)

Hey, she wanted some advice other than 'Don't drop out.' Technically that was some advice other than 'don't drop out.' rolling on the floor laughing rolling on the floor laughing rolling on the floor laughing

Or she could become a backyard belly dancer and charge two bits a gander.

My cousin has at least one four year degree and works as a greeter at Wal Mart. My brother has no degree at all and makes damn near 100,000 a year as an ex military contractor. My Aunt went to college all 4 years, got married and had kids. Her brother never went to college and he became a commercial pilot and then a freight pilot over Iraq.

I know people that insist that stuff like this is impossible. So since I never finished college, my life is supposed to be a wreck or something. Funny I just don't see it that way...I'm glad you posted that! grin

Take the full time job to pay off your bills and give you yourself time to decide what you want to do.

I dont know who your schooling works where you are but in New Zeland , you can leave and go back.

No point in studying for something you don't end up using anyone.
Been a mother to 2 grown up boys, one did a carpentry course which he didnt take up and changed to career to something totally different and is doing very well so at the end of the day, it was a decision that advanced him to something we really wanted to do.

Also i have seen his friends go do studies, courses which too have left them with big student debts and they too to changed thier careers.

So do what you feel is right for you and will make you happy :))

My advice is to finish school. Alot of times we put things on the back burner to finish that we never end up doing regardless of how much we say it will get finished. Just because you aren't doing well now, doesn't mean that your grades won't pick back up. And noone said you had to graduate top of your class to begin with in order to be successful.

Even though you may not want to be a teacher, that isn't to say that the education may come in handy in the future. Credit card bills can always get paid off later on when you are financially more stable.

Again personally, my advice is to finish your education because in the end, it will payoff more. However, that being said, you are at a crossroads in life that will more than likely follow you throughout the rest of your life, and only you can make these decisions. Good Luck & I wish the best.
