In my small town there is a bar, a fairly large one that is open from 7am till midnight, lt’s locally known as “The Communist Bar” as this is where they meet every week on Friday evening, outside under the large canopy which has water pumped from the stream below, sprayed onto its surface to keep those below cooler. Anyway, this is a great bar, nothing like those in my home land of England, here they sell, as you would expect, beer local and imported, bottled and keg, ice cold white wine and delicious red from local vineyards, but then here is the difference, they sell coffee, Small dark strong espresso, soft frothy cappuccino, and a special espresso with sambuca and grappa ( an Italian liquor with a kick like a mule) a wonderful nightcap, and finally they sell Ice Cream, not manufactured iced lollies like Magnum or nestles mintchoc but real Italian ice cream, Lemon, strawberry, chocolate fondue, coffee and walnut, one called English soup( don't ask)melon, peach and hazelnut to name a few. How civilised, in a country that only has 3 maybe 4 months of hot summer, that here at 11:30 pm you can have a delicious mouth watering refreshing cold ice cream and wash it down with a knockout coffee. I like Italy

WOW! Sounds like Heaven to me! I cannot complain, Punta del Este is an International Resort, I have the Atlantic Ocean surrounding me, many many Foreigners come to live here because of it´s safety, in all senses, I may say....I just look outside my Window to see two small Islands, a Marina with Yachts, Incredible Sunsets....can´t complain ever
What's special other than it being awesomely Denver and mucho sunshine here is that I live here of course lol. Without me I don't know what would happen to my city.

I really like that picture there Riz, it sounds wonderful.
My city? Nestled at the bottom of the mountains, we have the fortress, Hotel Sacher, which is my favourite place to go for breakfast on a Sunday, with my newspaper, sit on the terrace and watch Salzburg waking up... I like that.
In here, we have waitresses with little white caps on and white frilly aprons and the staff are just wonderful. The city is safe, people leave their babies in prams outside shops while they nip in for some Viennese coffee, not as nice as Italian coffee, but you know, I still love it...
mike69spain: Right now, they are blowing the air away with fireworks. It happens often, 'guess that makes it special.
Otherwise it is the Fenicians and the Moors history here that made most impact.
Spanish history is fascinating that’s so true, but here the history is also wondrous even though the government is trying to bury most of it under concrete and rubble, because they can't afford to actually maintain the amount buried in this land and won’t let other come here and carry out archaeological digs. Sad but true.

It is great although I am originally from Salem Oregon which is awesome too except for all the dang rain. Yeah Denver is wonderful and has nothing to do with me I was joking. There are many great restaurants, lots of Mexican food yummy, theaters and outdoor and Red Rocks Amphitheater which is quite an experience.

I'd respect that if I was living in Italy - or you would have to live in one of the pits they've dug. As you say, the history in Italy is enormous. Outside my house here there is a small part of it, the aqueduct of the Roman era!
I think what makes a town special is it's people, i have been here 18 months now. The people here are not rich by any standards but are so kind and generous, it humbles me.

I love Austria as much as you like Italy.
Calci is also in the foothills, so glorious to wake in the morning and see the green mountain, covered in pine at the top then olive groves that change into vines, when I face the other way its flat all the way to the coast about 10 k and from my van I can just see the top of Pisa cathedral and of course the tower (It looks straight from this angle). We have one Hotel, but no maids with white hats, just an ancient couple who only open at lunch time and close at 9pm, most of the local go up to the top of the mountain during the hottest time of day as it's so much cooler there, also there are great Bars and restaurants and even a huge park with a kiddies playground.

Same here, not much grandeur but good, hard-working people
