avecaim: In my hometown when people try to help others it is based on what they truly believe is good for that person, not what they think that person should be like. For example, they have a health center that works with doctors and nutritionists to help people get in shape. It doesn't encourage starvation, twiggy bodies, or changes made at a risky pace for one's overall health. Many women have gone there and turned their lives around. Better than some of those Hollywood fad diet/rehab centers based on aesthetics rather than science. I love my town.

kat7169: Special? my town? lol let's see, I would have to say...the drug dealers/addicts and gang members are slowly killing each other off. We have made a game of guess what types of guns are being used when we hear the shots every night.

I live in a coastal community with 28 miles of beautiful white sand beaches with warm waters and fatastic islands off shore that are isolated and lovely to spend a day.

We have 17,000 southern gentlemen and belles enjoying our artist lifestyle town. The downtown area is small and walkable with 200 year old oak trees covering everything. Just 2 miles across a bridge we have 13 casinos with the entertainment, restaurants and gaming to enjoy, but not deal with.

I live on the water and a golf course! These are two of my loves. There are dozens and dozens of great golf courses and all available to be played. All courses are open to the public to play.

Finally we have a southern culture that is unique and has made it through the years. People still respect anyone older than them. People open doors for you. Neighbors help neighbors. Family is respected.

Sounds Idyllic BJ, I had to sell my golf set prior to moving to Italy, boy do I miss it, was never very good but so enjoyed the game despite its frustrations, how civilized to have the courses open to the public, in the UK it has become very expensive to join a pro club, but they do have municipal clubs that cost little for a round, have yet to find one near where I live now, given time I am sure I will restart again.

I live in the desert - only a few miles from Mexico and only a few hours from big cities like Phoenix, San Diego and other places. The heat is intense here in the summertime and just perfect in the winter.
The city is not too big, no intense high-rises that block the views, the people are friendly and there is always something going on or things you can do.
I'm glad I transplanted myself here!grin

Whats special aabout my town is that its the Original Washington..

Yep George Washingtons ancestral home is 2 mins from my house.. The family were called Wessington originally and had they not changed their name to Washington, Washington DC would be Wessington DC...

The downside to my town is that because of the history we get tons of Americans descending on us in the summer

One of my most favourite of all cities is Phoenix, I worked there for a few months during my travelling the states, such a friendly city, great bars and night life, what an amazing view as you approach from out of the desert, when I moved from there to Austin,Tx what a cultural difference that was!!
