woodzchick: Why do people IM you then not say anything. If you IM me, you better have something to say. Don't expect me to do all the talking.

I answer some of these IM's and they never say anything but "Hi." I think they have more than one conversation going on at the time and that just makes me ill.

Don't IM me if you don't plan to just talk to me.

How many other people have this problem?

My IM here is turned off. grin

I've had a few of those but I get more of the scammers that check me out with a bunch of questions even though the answers are on my profile. When they don't like my answers they just disappear. That's a good thing! cheering

For your verbally challenged secret admirers you might say "Knock, knock. Anybody there?" yay

Yazoo-someone else has this happening, too. Awhile back a guy IM'd, several times. The system I work on does not receive these, but the attempt and the sender's name, etc.. shows up. So I am polite enough and go ahead and write to the e-mail, inviting him to write to mine. Then I get a curt response telling me to not contact. What a load of crap. I took a chance a day ago and responded to another--there's no motive on my part save to just pen pal or whatever. This recent one hasn't wrote back. What's going on here? Is the IM'er trying to write a nasty blip, and can't because the system won't take it, or are they just screwing around with people? I any event, this is the last time I try to be nice!

ContraryCol: The chances of me cold instant messaging anyone is none.
I think that it is very intrusive and presumtious of me to Im someone without getting there approval first and I very rarely ask.
I would agree. How do you get their approval first, Col?

lonelyheart5150: i get alot of that, most by people who channel surf, most just random you not even reading your profile

let's all try to be a bit more gracious with these encounters?

if people come in with their emails they are not trying to intrude in passing. something about us has been noticed by them and they may or may not know how to approach us from there, so, they are giving us the opportunity to connect for bothering, yes? they are not just more spam.

why do they have to read our profiles before they try to connect anyway because they like something you said?

they are taking a chance and don't quite know what to say or expect to make a good impression with us next. if we discard them for wanting to know us and bothering to reach that far, we are defeating what we are all in here for... Aren't we??

This has happened to me a few times. When it does happen I give it a few moments to give the other person time to even say hello.
If I see that nothing is going to come over the screen I just close them out. I cannot be bothered to tie myself up while they are busy with other things. peace
