Ok the ambience was plain too say the least, but then so was the area of the shabby town. The female company I was in was more interesting but the table manners did leave something to be desired too which i passed a comment and duly got the reply on email when i got home. (her loss, my gain)laugh .

The waiter and owner was ok but lacked sufficient knowledge of the english or french langgies or the german to that matter, see other thread about learning another langy if you like her, just as well i did learn a little romanian so i could understand something.

Tip was taken automatically on the card and not too little either.

Do others get a bit miffed too ...?...When on the bill there`s a "service charge" ... and then you still expected to leave a cash tip for the waiter? What exactly is a "service" charge? if not for the service provided?

I was amused in the Emirates to see about FOUR charges added to restaurant bills .... they have a "tourism" fee, "service" fee, and two other fees I forgotten what they are ... but it all takes care of the fact that there is no TAX charged there!grin

smoky: A word of advice from an experienced "been pissed off" old lady .... WATCH YOUR BACK as you leave!

I and a friend were forced to leave a restaurant because of certain reasons, and stopping to pay for the watery stuff they called "beer" that was served amidst screaming patrons and scrurrying cutlery dropping staff .......And after the same waiter had grabbed the notes out of my hand then thrown the change down on a nearby table...The next day I found the back of my winter coat covered in thick candle wax. Obviously the disgusted waiter had turfed the melted stuff as I turned my back to walk out.

sounds like a wild place lol cheers

That's SO nice, smoky. You are a lucky woman to have such a daughter in law.

My sister in law has never cooked for my mother other than when she's the whole clan over for kids' birthdays.sigh

Even one year when my mother was overseas with myself and my son, she did not invite my father for Easter Sunday lunch, knowing he was home on his own. She had a stranger over though.dunno
