Been a long while since I have frequented CS.

Things are good here.

I'm up to about 6'1" or down to that anyway. I have lost quite a bit of weight - probably too much.

Rehab is going well. I have regained about 90% use of my extremities. Still a little shakey when walking, but hopefully that will come.

I will likely always sound like a drunk which is great when I get pulled over like I was a couple of weeks ago.

Things at the clinic are great and I am assuming a larger case load every month. I expect I will be full time there after Christmas.

Time is short, I am not home much. Things are pretty good here, overall.

For newbies who may not know the good doctor, here is his orig thread which will explain everything.

As a doctor DazzleYou, can you give us some insight as to just what an aneurism in the brain is? Do you know by know what was the cause? Isn't this often fatal?

Anyway it's really good to see you again.handshake

I believe it is a ruptured blood vessel leading to the brain and if it bursts it can prove fatal.

Thank you Ooby.

I am constantly amazed and in awe of the strength we humans have for recovery. Doc... I'll keep you in my prayers. To read the post of what happened to you and the update you have given us, makes me smile, and see my own issues under a new light.

You are a very strong person...and for those of us that think we are having it rough...think again...and take a page out of this brave man's book.

Hope to see you post more often.

Thanks for the well wishes.

Yes, an aneurysm is a rupture of vessel or vessels in the brain. It can be caused by a number of factors, however I don't seem to fit the mold for any of them - which does rarely occur.

Aneurysms are often fatal, however I had mine at a hospital I was interviewing for a new position at. I was speaking with my would be supervisor on the sidewalk out front after observing for a shift to see if it was a team I could work with.

I was attended to very quickly which was very important to my survival. Rehab has been difficult, but if it was easy my progress would not have been possible.

My only regret is that although my life was spared, life has seen major changes for me - most of which were not positive.

But, we still have life.

Yes it can be very very tiny rupture which can leak over a period of hours/days.
My dad suffered an aortic anurism.
If it bursts..it is fatal whether it be in the brain or the aorta.

Doc, I haven't read your original thread but I know just how badly the body can suffer from an anurism.
It's not just the brain at all and other organs are also affected prior to any road to recovery.

My dad was 69 when he had his aortic anurism, you are just 37..I can't imagine how shocking this must have been for you and your family.

When my dad had his op on the day he was rushed in they told us that it was the most major operation they dealt with in that hospital. His care was second to none.
It amazed me what they did for him..s I am sure you are also quite amazed.
You have a while to go with your recovery and some things may not be the way they always were..but your body is there for you and is fighting the best it can.

All the best to you...
Keep your spirits up, believe in your body and you'll get there.

You're pretty accurate, Morgan. He suffered an aneurysm in February. He got out of the hospital & then suffered a subdural hematoma, which put him back in the hospital for a bit. wine

I'm so glad to see that he's having such good progress with his recovery! thumbs up

Keep up the great work, Doc! bouquet

Wow - you have certainly made enough of a recovery to write better than many of us who never suffered anything like what happened to you.

Fantastic.......... I am only sad to read your last sentence and hope that you can turn any negatives around into something good.

You write so very well and clearly that i wonder if you would consider writing some medical books for the general public?

Just an idea, but your talents should still be put to good use!

thumbs up

Fortunately all is not lost. I knew I could not keep the kind of pace I used to in the ER, but emergency medicine has always been my passion.

But with my move to the Northwest (I won't even go into the stupid set of circumstances that caused that), I was looking at opening my own emergency medicine clinic. That way I could keep daytime hours and wouldn't need to feel like a vampire.

But, I found a not for profit health clinic that basically does emergency medicine - no traumas, mostly stuffy noses, broken bones, bites, sports injuries, and the pace suits me well.

Plus, they let me pretty much keep my own hours as I am basically there to divide work load away from the primary doc that works there. Of course the pay is nothing like what I was making, but it is still comfortable given that I don't have any debt.

Thanks for the comments on my writing. If you saw my handwriting, you would change your mind, lol.

Well, Sir, I take my hat off to you........... but I thought illegible writing was a precondition to becoming a doctor!

This is the most inspiring thread I've even seen in CS - thank you! thumbs up
