ttom500: That is OK J.D. don't be jealous. Maybe someday they will have a reason to be suspisious of NZ. Other than winning a sail boat race on occassion, most are still trying to figure out where NZ is and what it does.

Most Americans don't know where the White House is, or what it does.... let alone New zealand, so why would any one else in the world feel jealous. !!

A few us know...also some know what the Brits did to it in 1812. You might be well advised to keep some our old US patriots away from Parliment and Downing Street if they have matches or a lighter in their hand.

hehe.
Funny, I've made the 1812 joke to a few people Americans while I was travelling a bit of the country. The amount of blank looks didn't surprise me, but the outright refusal to believe it did.

That staement would carry more creadance if I understood your meaning of a US patriot to mean the indigenous American, but they do not call themselves US patriots.... !!!

They never has a United States, they just had a land they were caretakers of..... they never saw ownership..... maybe the USA could learn a lesson from their oldest inhabitants about the rights of humans and who actually owns the land !!!

SAXONNUMBER1: What's your views on America and Americans?
Are they the worlds savior or not!
Will they maintrain their military dominance or will China become a force to be reckoned with?

WWI and WWII... we never asked for the job of "saving the world", it rather got handed to us. dunno

If you think you (or China or whoever) can do it better then by all means go for it! I wouldn't complain a bit... saving the world is bloody and expensive and thankless! I'd be most happy to go back to the isolationist ideas of the 1930's when Americans wanted no part in foreign wars ever again. mumbling

Here is the funniest thing about the war of 1812 from the Brit perspective. The President Madison was not in command of the military forces defending Washington. He had made his wife in charge of getting all the paintings, china and furniture of earlier Presidents out of the White House.

When the battle to defend Washington went bad and he called for a evacuation of the city. He was riding out of the city before his wife and the White House goods had left the city. They did not see President Madison for several days, until he was well away from
DC. All the time, Mrs. Madson was losing White House items in her flight to follow him.

All the Brits had to do was follow the broken china of Mrs. Madison to find the President of the United States.

Hi Jamo,
Contrary to what you might read with what I have posted here tonight, I do not hate Americans either, I just wish they would come out of their insular shells that allow them to think they have won every war since 1812 !!! without the help of allies !!!

The Americans I have met here in Europe have always started an introduction by saying they are not like most Americans and they are quite ashamed to intoduce themselves as such.

What I have found, is that these Americans actually have an open mind about the rest of the world and want to explore it, which is why I have met them in Europe.

The rest just seem to want to stay in America, slag the rest of the world off for not being gratefull, and try to figure out where Europe is and why the rest of the world is not grateful for them winning every war single handedly. So don't be surprised that NZ and Aus does not come into the reckoning !!

Thats absolute crap.

Thats like saying that most Britains dont know where Downing Street is, and where the PM resides..

Insulting an entire country of people is the most base thing you do..

Pearl Harbour, was handing the war to you was it ???

So why was that then ???

Or was it more what America could get out of the rest of the war.
It took the Brits until 2001 to pay off the 1945 war debt to America and thats nothig to the loss of life but what America could make out of the rest of the world.
