Englishman55: You mean Iraq !!! and lets not forget Iran, the evil tyrant to be quashed because they have no oil at all.

The fifth largest oil field in reserve..... so what are the other 4.... or do I need to ask..... you work it out !

A week ago PB made the announcement. The field is called Tiber.
400 miles se of Houston, TX. Two of the other largest are in Saudi. Then Iraq's northern field. Then Iran's major field. And now Tiber.
Then the US's Alaskan field. Then the Russian Siberian field, I think.

The problem is.....that the all the middle east fields have been pumped for a number of years.....meaning the reserves has been decreasing. Also the well head pressure is decreasing. Meaning it is hard to get. It the reason OPEC uses to reduce supply. Or control supply as one like to think.

Tiber is hard to get as well. Deepest depth in the Gulf. Also temp problems in the strat....but PB tapped it once. So solved the engineering problems.....they just have to duplicate with production platforms.

Englishman55: Sorry to take you up on this Riz, but the Chinese are doing good, and have done for centuries without the outside interference and so too the Islamic countries.

They only become a threat when they do not wish to be pushed around by the rest of the world !!

JMHO

China is doing very well, thats the point, I thing Asia will build up and up until they actually control the world money, that way they can take control of the west and specifically the US. they don't need to fight as in a war, they can do all this sat at a computer. Just take a look at the companies owned by Japan it is quite an eye opener, and the struggle between Japan and China is all but over.

So... most of the Middle Eastern fields have been pumped dry..... by whom, I wonder ? then comes Iraq and Iran, thus leaving the Tiber field for last, when everyone elses has been pumped dry..... Am I being cynical here ???

I am sure you will say ... yes !

According to Google the top 9 oil field are:-
Saudi Arabia
Canada
Iran
Iraq
Kuwait
United Arab Emirates
Venezuela
Russia
Libya

Tiber will not come on line for many years if at all as the technology required for retrieving it has not yet been developed

Not pumped dry. Their reserve has been reduced over the years of being pumped. As a field is pumped and oil is removed from the ground...the well head pressure decreases. Like a balloon filled with air....then you let it fly....it looses pressure and slows.

Same concept. The daily barrels pumped in old fields decreases as the well head pressure decreases.

Hence the Saudi field especially....are being managed to hold a high well head pressure. There are things you can do....crack the well...drill it deeper...but when the well head pressure falls to a certain level....your production is slowed greatly.

Tiber being a new field.....will have high well head pressure, For it first 10+ years of production....should have high production levels. The question is can PB get the number of platform with deep drilling abilities to the field.

PB is spending %115m per week to get Tiber into production. Big change gentlemen. If PB did not think that they had all the answers to Tiber....they would not be making that kind of investment.

The actual why's and wherefor's of how you get the oil out of the ground is irrelevant..... it's who's taking it that matters. !

I also assume that when you say PB you actually mean BP (I could be wrong here) but that is Britsih petroleum, a British company and we all know the Brits are so far up the backsides of the Americans that it makes no odds what the company is called..

Suck dry the rest of the worlds resources, using the excuse that Tiber is a long way away from being fully productive. Then when everyone elses has run dry..... funnily enough Tiber will be on stream !!!

Still being cynical here !!

Don't get me wrong. You are right. Tiber will take years to get into production. The Saudi fields and distribution network took what....30-40 years to develop.

The important piece of the oil puzzle that Tiber fills is this. Eastern US can now have a major field located near. Our major distribution network begins in Houston and then a pipeline to the north east.

Some day the US will not have to see those super tanker pulling into Houston dropping off OPEC oil.

The importance is the preceived danger of not having enough oil from the middle east. But a producing Tiber ends that preceived danger at some time in the future.

The other thing is this. Iran and OPEC know Tiber potential. If they are going to use their oil cards to influence the west and the US.....it has to be done prior to Tiber coming into production.

Sorry long day here....typo...yes British Petroleum. The Tiber field was part of a field grant by the US government. So unless our gov't has its head totally on wrong....much of the Tiber product will come to the US.

Why would BP take it to market further than the US? Longer transportation cost that just cuts down on profitability. BP stations in the 100s here in the US. They need product. BP can make great profits simply by selling Tiber crude to other refiners in the Houston area.

Will some end in other countries? Sure. There are two other producers in the Tiber field....Conoco Phillips and a firm from Brazil. So they can ship oversea.

That is OK J.D. don't be jealous. Maybe someday they will have a reason to be suspisious of NZ. Other than winning a sail boat race on occassion, most are still trying to figure out where NZ is and what it does.
