petalbabe: Hurray! We agree!

Yep, it gets tedious, for all concerned actually - it would be nice to see less threads pertaining to the States, for sure. Apart from some of the Obama threads, however, alot of these threads are started by non-Americans!

Yep, I agree with you, Godsgift; a little more variety on here would be good.

Hope you are well..and yes, I guess I do get fiery - thats good, I think!

Oh, thank God. I was waiting for white UN jeep to come round the corner and start a peace process. All my best to you and yours.teddybear teddybear teddybear

Godsgift: Oh no. I over reacted and apologised as the threads wen't on. But I still have a right to question people who post. And like everyone else, cerain things put my back up and the fact that the International forum is bogged down with US issues, is one of them. People get complacent and tug the party line so sometimes a wee shake of the tree is the way to go.

Incidentally, the whole thread I think was designed to stick the boot in so I'm not alone on here. You can be firey enough yourself!

Well, the Europeans post on the EU forum, there's a separate Australia forum and other local ones. You cannot hold the American participants here at fault for posting on the int'l. If the members who live in other countries wanted to see their issues up for discussion on the international forum, then they should post them here. I'd certainly welcome other issues. It would broaden everyone's horizon.... except for the "are asian chicks hot" variety out of China and similar ones.

... and please let's not argue that they'd get beaten up here. I'm sure there are other regular int'l participants who feel the same.

Godsgift: OK, now remember that in Ireland and The UK that all channels carry much the same stories and claim to be impartial though I suspect that's getting harder as the world gets smaller. My problems with FOX are simply that they seemed to follow the GW Bush line and in my view, it was a dangerous line to follow. I feel the days of empire building are over and I expect that you take the opposite view from me and God knows there are enough political posts on here.

My guess is that life will get more and more complex from here on in. We are in a situation where the politics of one country directly affects another.

My feeling from FOX and GW is that the best and easiest plan is just to bulldoze our opponents out of the way. That leaves the west open to the kind of guerella warfare we are seeing that our oh so high tech weapons are not designed for and I just see that going on for generations ad infinitum. That is why I fear this doctrine. If one lunatic appears on either side, then we're all dead. It's a war that can't be won.

Now, my own view which you would describe as left wing and I would describe as realistic is that we really need to start talking to these people and find some kind of compromise. And it won't be a one off occaision and then resolved. There will continue to be problems and we'll have to continue to talk.

A hard task either way when we seem to have trouble even talking amongst ourselves.

I dont think you watch fox enough by your post. Bush has not been the president for coming on a year. They generally have people from both sides debating issues. The problem is that when the charts go up and you see the numbers and facts, the left wing view comes out looking badly.

What I see is that you are mainly concerned with foreign policy aspects. In this regard I agree. America has enough resources we should abandon all our hundreds of bases and be self sufficient. Unfortunately this means europe will have to go there or suffer shortages of energy and manufacturing materials or send their own troops over there to keep the economy going. I think the russians, muslims, etc. are your problem anyways. We have an ocean between us and them and some very simple immigration reforms can protect us from any real threat. I think when you are in a soupline wearing a burkha in a couple decades youll probably wish for the good ol days...lol...has london elected a muslim mayor yet?

If you lived here youd see the main controversy on fox is that it does not support the liberal/fascist/socialist policies of many of our politicians. I agree they supported the neo-cons but the republicans I know hat bush nearly as much as obama, defense aside he tripled the size of government.

Cnn, MSNBC, etc. and their ilk all said maybe 50,000 protested the other weekend. The foreign press reported 1-2 million. Fox put up street camera videos comparing it to the obama inauguration, pegged at 1.8 million. They discussed the issue of acorn corruption, and van jones, the communist(literally) obama appointed to green jobs czar. Stories like this get ignored by the rest of the media as much as possible.

Yet fox still covers republican scandals. They were all over sanford, the gay airport bathroom stuff, so in watching them fox is the only one not trying to censor to promote a particular viewpoint, despite having commentators that lean a bit right. I am far more scared of the other media outlets. I usually listen/watch fox, and the bbc. Then I dig around the issue online and have pretty good luck getting to the bottom of it.

I heard tons of opposition to bush on fox as well, in matters of immigration, trade, gun control (king george wanted another assault weapons ban, for example). I challenge you to watch it a bit more.

Conrad73: The US-Constitution merely guaranties tzhise Rights, not giving them.
Those Rights are inherent in the Individual, whether a Government acknowledges them or not.

leonjs48: arrogance of a government? or of a people? most americans just go about their business and try to feed ftheir families just like anyone in other countries, and always has a helping hand.
