You're asking an American what I think of America???
Well it's like this, I wave the flag at home and on my desk at work. My license plate reveals that I am proud to be american and I know the words to the Star Spangled Banner.

Em, I'll think you'll find he was asking the world. Perhaps you should look up the word 'international,'as in 'International Forum.' If the definition is different in a US dictionary from an English one, it would realy explain an awful lot of the last 50 years.
jessejess47: First of all you should not be watching Dr. Phill ...if you think that the News are biasied what do you think is going on here......Can't say much about China don't really know.......However the ones that bashed our troops as they came back from "Nam" was not the majority nor are they now .....this happens here because we have "Freedom of Speech" and "Freedom to Peaceful Protest".....Our rights allow this...now this is one reason "WHY" us Americans talk about our rights so much (even tho they are not much differant from the rest of the free world) because we seem to be in the center of these conversations and seem to have to explain why people around the word see the protests and such in the news....you must remember the News report for ratings and these things get the ratings....
yep but i dont take notice what the news says i know the press only want to sell its papers
and yes i know about the protests too see a fair bit of them hear in australia and in canberra
i understand why you talk about your rights and other people cant do this if they speak up they get either beaten to a polp or killed
thats what you get living under a dictator
your constitution gives you that right as an american
our constitution wants to screw us over like with taking our guns off us but were there is a way ther is a will loop holes
thats why a lot of people from third world countrys look to your country as a boy growing up in yugoslavia i use to look to your country too wishing my old man decided to move to america instead of moving to australia but i can see why he moved us to australia not nice growing up in a war torn country being taught what to watch for and to look out for land mines and traps and then we had the bears as wel to deal with
i am hooked on your shows we always get the repeats
its all that is played too in the philippines a lot of the young people in bacolod and with in the proviances have american shows on thats how they learn to speak english but all the bad words
stuff i lernt in the building game by my old man and his mates

ttom500: Sure it does...the greatest power struggle of all time was and is the struggle of good and evil...it is a question of prespective, Rizlared. When one places countries into the equation ....national interest rights security economics etc etc etc. only then does it become complex.
When Moses went to Pharoah to ask for the Jewish nation to be set free....they did not talk security, GNP, or national interest, or even human rights....though all those things were involved.
But if you keep it simple....right and wrong,
Try this in your assessment of China and its growing wealth. Ask the question is China wealth being gained freely (without human oppression)? Now you have a moral guestion.
Now the assessment.
China uses prisoners in force factory labor camps. China has millions of young women in futureless factory jobs. China has conducted human organ extractions from executed prisoners for profit.
The morally right answer becomes easy to see.
But that is YOUR morality in judgment of a country which has a vastly diverse and different culture to yours, who is to say that their version of what is morally correct is right or wrong?
China is pretty much the last major country to have been touched by western standards, and very reluctantly from what I have read, that they wish to remain culturally and morally different to the west is their right, however, while the rest of the world fights their insane wars with each other, China slowly plods along, giving employment to it's workers, sound education and medical advances that could be envied throughout the world. We on the outside find much very wrong with China, but that is seeing it though our concept of what is right and wrong, sure there is a huge amount wrong to China, the death and killing is wrong which ever culture you are from for example, but, there is a future there that may become the most dominant in the world.
I hope to be working there soon and will tell you if my opinion changes
dont worry about it hon.... mostly everyone is agreeable and enjoys your posts... I do too...
best wishes
Hi Merri I misread the title. I preceived it to be asking what do we, the international community, think of Americans. He had a reason to be curt when he replied to me and that's his problem, not mine. Thanks for your post
arrogance of a government? or of a people? most americans just go about their business and try to feed ftheir families just like anyone in other countries, and always has a helping hand.
it seems many "confuse" "Arrogance" with pride for thier country......perhaps others should try to be as proud of thier country as Americans are ....Pride of our leaders and goverment is of course a whole other can of worms tho.....

The US-Constitution merely guaranties tzhise Rights, not giving them. Those Rights are inherent in the Individual, whether a Government acknowledges them or not.

Could be others are just as proud of their countries, but just have a different way of showing it, and not with the arrogance I've seen some display...

Sorry !!! Neither the United States Or China . You are going to see a one world Government in your world. They will be broken into ten regions or super countries but will be powerless by themself bowing to the head or World Government. the United states will belong to the North American allience. China will belong to the Asia Allience . Make no dought that all laws and power will come from the Head. This is in the works for a very long time . All brought to you by the Global elete .

OK, I'll lay my cards on the table. I watched a tv program recently about the relatives of those who died on 911. It was one of only two times I felt sympathy because it was the story of real people, people like me and my family. I met members of New York Fire Department in Cobh in County Cork and on speaking to them, my heart went out to them.
Like I said, these were real people and I would have to be dead not to feel sympathy be aware of the absolute tragedy.
But I have to extend that to the innocents of the middle east too regardless of their country. If you've seen your family die in an air raid, then there's a chance one day you'll be bombing the London tube system or Glasgow Airport.
My problems arise when either the political left or the political right use this to stir hatered and justify their own aspirations espescially when those aspirations are in the direction of world domination. This is burning down the Reichstag all over again but on a global scale with the force of mass media behind it.
I'm sorry but I don't trust the politicians of this world and the more I hear the less I trust them.
I used to know who were the good guys and who the bad guys were. Well, now I don't and I see people following blindly one side or the other without thinking. America has the right to exist. So does Israel, Palestine, Iran, Iraq, China and all the rest.
I pick up Americans in my taxi and I get asked, 'Are there any muslims in Ireland.' Should we be building gas chambers or something? I pull up in my taxi outside one of the local pubs to await a customer and some American voice shouts about this spoilng the scenery for them as if I would use a horse and cart just to fit in with their expectations.
If I came to the US and told you how to run your affairs, you'd be pissed and rightly so. People like me get pissed when I feel that not only is America aiming to contol the world but that they think I should be only too grateful for this too.
And that can extend to this site. There seems to be a CS site for every US state but repeatedly, this particular forum is regarded as the All American Forum and not what it is, The International one.
Look yourself at the posts.....nothing political about anywhere else other than the US or her interests.

i worry that you are correct on this point, on some level i think people feel this, and in part why so much division here lately
