How big is your country? How close are you to other countries? Do you need to travel for your work or other reasons?

If that was directed towards me, well you are wrong. USA is bound by Canada and Mexico. That's it. The US is very large. If a person is in a small European country, they might have a greater need to travel. For all I know, a person might travel only three hours across their country and have a passport need. For me, I have traveled three days and still am in the USA.

Ta-da.

Please don't be mean.

I think the size and diversity of the country may have
something to do with it.

This is New York, This is where petalbabe is. Not what you thought huh?

A thin blue line on the map separates the Adirondacks from the world of madcap development. The park covers six million acres—an area larger than the Grand Canyon, Yellowstone, and Yosemite combined. It is roughly the same size as the state of Vermont to the east. Adirondack State Park covers a fifth of New York State. Two thousand peaks lie within its folds, and a hundred are taller than 3,000 feet. Two peaks, Marcy and Algonquin, stand higher than 5,000 feet. Nearly half of the park is forest preserve, land set aside to remain in its natural state. Spanning most of the park's lands are vast forests of pine, maple, and birch. The park supports 500,000 acres of true old growth forest. Of of this area, 200,000 acres have never been logged.

This is the Grand Canyon;

... because it takes 30 minutes for an Irish person to go to "another country".
If you stop and think for a minute, consider that the US is bigger than Europe...

I'm very familiar with Florida, my sister lives in Oviedo near Orlando and I have an old racing buddy who lives in an orange grove in a tiny little town called Babson Park. That's MY kind of Florida well off the beaten track.

One time I flew from NJ to Daytona with a hood from a car, yep you read right, the car my boss entered in the 24 hours of Daytona wouldn't pass inspection because the hood had a scoop on it which was not allowed in his class so I had to remove the hood from a similar car in the showroom which didn't have a hood and fly with it to Daytona. When we got to Daytona (The track was right alongside the airport) it was night time and the cars were on the track having night practice. We circled the track in this Boing 727 going at near stall speed of around 130 MPH and the cars on the track were passing us going 225 MPH. I will never forget that sight. My heart almost jumped out of my chest with pride to think I was a part of those guys.
Epilogue: I got off the plane, but the hood didn't. It wound up in Key West, it seems they thought it was part of the plane. I guess they never thought anybody would be flying with the hood off a freakin car.laugh

well there are a few reason really first we can travel to Canada and Mexico without a passport ,much like you can travel to say, England without one, also we have a rather large country and there is an aweful lot to see here in our own country...not to say most would not like to travel abroad ...but the cost is a lot more as well ....we can pretty much drive anywhere here as well....beer

Jeez... would be great if it only took 30 mins to get abroad.

Which 'other country' is it that you are referring to that is only 30 mins away from us?

Hi stanley..wave

As Oopy has already told you - (Hi Oopy!!laugh ), I am now in Northern New York State, having moved over from Ireland.

Basically, your question has already been answered many times here - its pretty much down to the size and diversity of the country. Also, especially in these economic times - lack of money).

Having only recently moved here, I am not allowed now to leave the US for two years, unless I have prior approval. Thats just the immigration process here. Soooo, I was only talking this morning with me hubby about how many places I would love to see here in the US. Its baffling, the variety, and I dont really know where to start! It will certainly keep my vacation question answered for quite a while, I think!laugh

Anyway, if you are new - Welcome to CS..

If not, hi anyway!!wave
