Debate thread aside man, in your posts the quotes aren't showing as 'quotes' but as part of the normal text which is making it difficult to follow who said who at times.

I think you're doing copy/paste of others' texts to include them in your posts, just press 'quote' to reply to a particular post, and the other peson's quote will appear in that highlighted box.

Back to the subject, you and I don't see this on exactly the same manner, but unlike nettermann you're proving a valid debate opponent handshake

Also for the record, it was stated that the guy who threw this model of Milan Cathedral was a person with a history of mental illness - good thing it was only a nutter, just think what could have happened, it was only a nutter that shot Lennon...

This ought to raise issues of the PM personal security in this day and age. I know that Berlusconi is an extrovert that likes to get into the crowd and shake hands and sign autographs, etc, but this should stop now - his minders need to put their foot down with a firm hand !

Smilerguy: If i owned a mass-media empire, i would use it present facts, not my face everywhere

I don't doubt your good intentions mate, but you know the saying 'power corrupts the soul' yes?

Many other leaders started off with good intentions but lost their way as the lust for power took over.

Re-the media empire, I don't want to claim any moral high ground, but it's easier to say what you've claimed when you know that you probably won't ever be in Berlusconi's position isn't it? Each one of us has faults, heck I don't know what I'd do if I had Berlusconi's wealth & power at my disposal, I'd like to think I'd do good with it, but then again, one man's heaven is another's hell, so you'll still find people who'll denigrate and hate you for it.

Just think about this, with his media empire, banks etc, Berlusconi has given emplyoment to thousands of people, haven't they benefited too (although not to his extent) from his businesses?

To be fair....we have witnessed several episodes internationally were public figures were pelted with paint or whatever.....even shoes....and that happened to be the man with the highest secret service protection in the world....

laugh

...some of the worst episodes ended tragically by people being shot at or murdered.....

...so at the end of the day....I guess that being a public figure will always run the risk of being a target for unbalanced souls....

dunno

Update:

Italian premiere Silvio Berlusconi is to remain under observation at San Raffael Hospital in Milan for the next 36 hours. No complications have been reported but due to swelling he is to be kept in hospital until discharged.

Meantime, political leaders, including the the main opposition party the PD secretary Bersani, in an interview on National TV Rai after having ended a personal visit to the premier, stated that such incidents must be condemned outright.....no ifs....no buts...

In the meantime the appeal being made by all is to stop the crescendo of personalized hate campaigns and revert to political criticism of a more mature nature.

Individual character assasination will not provide any alternatives to policies being applied by the present administration in Italy.

Mr Berlusconi was knocked to the ground and he came up bleeding with two teeth damaged. What you think on the incident, do you think the PM was not protected enough? Do you think it’s a humiliating a head of a state? Or you think he deserve it? What is your view on the knock out?[/quote]

It will sure take away attention from Tigger Wood conversing

Whatever one thinks of him, I still don't go for violence-the man looked obviously distressed by it all.
