Odysseus101: Well, there we have it. This thread has served to present equally valid opinions from both side of the divide. It has also allowed Englishman to articulate the minutaie of his situation, and illuminate us on the intricases of italian divorce law. An interesting topic.
Don't you remember "Divorzio all'italiana" ? The film telling the story of a Sicilian nobleman, Ferdinando Cefalù (Marcello Mastroianni) who wants to marry his cousin Angela (Stefania Sandrelli). Since divorce was illegal in Italy at the time, he has to try to make his current wife Rosalia Cefalù (Daniela Rocca) have an affair so that he can catch her in flagrante delicto, murder her, and receive a light sentence for committing an honour killing.
Geez, don't be so defensive! I meant that sincerely, it's an interesting subject, and makes for good discussions here. Your take on divorce in Italy is interesting, not only for me, but for many here, I would imagine. I wish you luck in resolving those issues.

What I have learnt about the Italian culture on marriage and relationships, since the split with my wife, is probably enough for half a book. !
kongreece: 2 of the men I met through this site, were "very" married though they declared to be single. Absolutely unacceptable!! Has this ever happened to you?
I have 7 wifes ... looking for number 8 ... so whats the big deal ...

Godsgift: Because this is the only post this member has ever done on this site yet she's had 2 dates. Has anyone ever heard of her till this post? Some people just like to attention seek. In Ireland, we have a meet arranged for the 30th Jan but at least 6 of the people registered don't even exist.
So if someone I knew had started this thread I wouldn't question it but not some unknown. There are plenty of folks on here with a victim mentality who are happy to join in on a post like this.
many cs members have been on site for a very long time and never posted because of clowns like you.Have you not seen the flower button or the I.M.someone else who's mouth is in overdrive while is brain is in neutral.there are alot more dates outside of the forums than in them.
Konigsberg: Easy Godfather It is just they envy your ability to cheat without being caught
I don't cheat..I'm single.
But if I WERE taken...it's hard to try to live an honsest lifestyle and cheat at the same time.
But I'm a man ....and don't have to bring Nationality's into it...talk about putting labels on people...by their nationality.
I mean really....are people reallly that idiotic and narrowminded?
Do you know...I know alot of Italian men and women that have been cheated on by other NATIONALITIES...but I DON'T NEED TO label and won't bring up NATIONALITIES.

Still working on the other half
The other half of the book could easily be taken up with the outstanding in-equalities within the EU system. The reality of moving within the EU system is nothing like the 'dream' proposed 36 years ago. But I digress.
Kalimera: I have seen similer statements to this so many times on this site and it infuriates me, over here you have to be seperated, as in prove you have lived seperately, for 5 years before you can apply for a divorce. I certainly did not sit in and wait for 5 years before dating again and there was never any chance of me getting back with my ex.As for ppl being married but saying they arent that happens in RL to not just online, go out to any bar or club any weekend and you can see that.
I agree wth you V it drives me mad when people ask, are you divorced and when you say "No" they come back with " Well then you are not really single are you". What do they think, we seperate one day and get a divorce the next day
